The Gripen or perhaps the Rafale would've done better for Pakistani Air Force, but thats just me. With $5 B dollars to spend I'll go with the latest weapon available. F16s is old news.

Offcourse we also would if US is willing to sell us Gripen and Rafale but thts the problem they are even not willing to give us f-16s in real sense.

Gripen and Rafale are totally different..... gripen is basicly an up-rate verison of fc-1.......

Nooo , Gripen is much better , or? But later improvements of FC might surpass swedish level. Saab has been established in the aeronautical industry for decades, one of the most experienced in the field.

The Gripens can do just about everything.

The Jas-39 is currently in the stage of being upgraded for the more modern varients. Improved airframe, more fuel capacity and weapons payload, it could very well soon be in the same weight class as the Typhoons and Rafale. F16s has Aim-120s hm not bad, but the Gripens main weapon is the Mach 5 Meteor BVR missiles and the Iris-5 short range missile performs as good if not better than the Aim-9.

US has no say in Rafale but the Gripen uses a lot of american components including the powerplant and any sales to Pakistan is subject to governments approval.

I don't think that they can block this deal because Indian lobby is in minority against Bush Administration.

What these indians are doing is to create enough noise and controversy to divert attention from the dangerous and illegal nuclear deal with the rouge state of hindustan and then have an agenda to create problems for Pakistan after 2008 if a democrat comes into power.
