What's new

India -Taliban in Afghanistan is not much matter as compared to 1990s

1) Pakistan did not support the Taliban in the cold War against the Soviets and Afgan govt. That's because there was no taliban. It was the mujahideen.

2) Support for the taliban in the 90s had nothing to do with the support you gave to the TTP and BLA/BLF. Our war on terror was not against the Afghan Taliban.

3) India and its relationship with the Taliban? Weren't you the guys that were saying they are terrorists and you were gonna deploy troops in afghan against the taliban? Also I don't think they would want to be an ally of you. Not especially after what you did in Kashmir and Gujrat.

1. They were the same people those having tasty dinners in your government offices and even with US leaderships.
And the same people who became terrorist after 9-11........... If you are supporting then calling Mujahideen and against then calling., terrorist..... Wow - just - wow

Read the history about TTP/and whatever child groups of taliban... Why were they against you after US pressurised you to take actions in Pakistan. ...... Pakistan was avoiding to take action but USA won and you took the heavy action against them.

So, was you expecting from them? No response? Bhai - you people only trained them... So it was expected.

3 We are not going to do friendship with Taliban but will have some level of contact as part of foreign policy.

.
There are many reasons that now Taliban if comes central power in Afghanistan then it will not be a security challenge to India as compared to the 1990s.

1. Border infiltration – As openly admitted by Musharraf (EX-Army chief) and NAWAZ (Ex-PM) that infiltration was happening in Indian-held Jammu and Kashmir. It was also trained & supported by the Taliban and was also part of arm infiltrator.

In 2021- Most of the borders are already fenced and little chance for a high number of infiltration at the borders.

2. Less chance of repeating the same mistakes by Pakistan- during the cold war, Pakistan supported to Taliban against the USSR and provided all US-supplied arms to the Taliban, and provided the pieces of training in Pakistan. They also hosted lots of arms Talibani’s in Pakistan to use against the USSR and India.

In 2021- After doing massive clean-up by Pakistan army after 9-11, and losing the many own people & suffering bomb last attacks during the clean-up process. It is very little chance that Pakistan will repeat the same old mistakes.

3. India can improve its relationship with the Taliban.

In 2021- Since now, the Taliban is not a legitimate threat to India. India's government can easily improve its relationship with the Taliban. Trading and business will be moving forward further.

4. Benefits of a good relationship with Afghani people

In 2021- India has mostly invested to improve the infrastructure and development in Afghanistan. The reputation of India is not as an invader but a supporter. It will help to maintain a good relationship with Taliban and Afghanistan leaderships
Is OP advocating for good relationship with terrorists?

That makes india terror sponsor.

1) don't try to twist this on us. The mujahideen and the taliban had different leadership. As of rn they are dozens of different group in the afghan taliban.

After 9-11 they weren't designated as Terrorists. They were the official govt of Afghanistan before they were toppled
We had no choice but to join the wot. And the taliban we took action against were nothing like the afghan taliban. The Afgan Taliban wanted nothing to do with the likes of ttp. For one they were sponsored by you Indians and 2 they were pure evil. Why were they against us? The same reason why the kashmiris are against you. They wanted freedom, except their freedom is the freedom to butcher the civillians and insert their own messed version of Islam and their 'Islamic court of law' on the people in the tribal areas. Their version of Islam is nothing like true Islam.

2) I know enough about the TTP to know that the IEA disowned them and said they don't want anything to do with them. Fun fact. They both hate each other.

3) hahaha. Ok. This is just another term for afghan India bhai bhai. Or in laymen terms, phull sappport siiiiiir. Even though we called you terrorists and supported those who were killing you.

Are you sure?

Who was Osama bin laden?

Option 1. A Mujahidin fought a war after getting arms training in Pakistan with financial support from the US & Saudi. And, he supported for funneling arms, money, and fighters from the Arab world into Afghanistan.

Option 2. A mujaheddin turned terrorists as per the US and Pakistan establishment.

Yaar might be for you, he was a mujaheddin cum terrorist but for me. He was a terrorist when he was fighting against the USSR and still was a Terrorist when fighting against the US and Pakistan, while Pakistan was helping the US to kill all Talibani's.

How many Talibans you saw in India doing their operation back in 90s when they were in control of Afghanistan?

It's a very simple equation. Wheather Talibans appear in India or not, Pakistan western flanks will now be safe and Afghan soil will not be used against Pakistan, just like back in 90s. How that will effect India, well, you are clever enough to understand that bit.

you did not give the answer....

?????

Note: if you get the time then just read about:- Pakistani military actions into the tribal areas in 2002 after forced by the US.

TPP/PPT/TCT - whatever child groups--- All are just part of the love-hate affair drama of the Soviet, USA, Taliban, Al-Qaeda, and Pakistan.

Because its irrelevant to what you are trying to sell here, I.e. "India -Taliban do not matter as they did back in 90s".

There is this silly narrative going about in India that Pakistan will give a safe passage to Taliban so they can now fight India inside Indian territory. So I asked you, point me an instance back in 90s when Taliban conducted as operation in Delhi or Bombay?

Taliban effect is indirect. One which I already have mentioned, which is Pakistani western flank becoming safe and secure, and shrinking of Indian geopolitical reach in this region. And this effect will be same as it was in 90s. India is now back at 90s level, intact might be worse now since China has already been invited by Taliban into Afghanistan.

Everybody knows taliban never went for operations in IOK or India.

It is relevant, Sir.

How come you people just want to erase the history or do not ready to accept it..

I will repeat it again!!

?????

2 weeks back taliban were terrorists. Now they are indias behnois aka jija jis.

NO, As I said before.... there should be communication with the Taliban as a part of foreign policy. Afghanistani is our brothers and sisters, we can not ignore them because of the Taliban.

We need to support Afghanistan's development and require to make a formal relationship with the Taliban then there in no harm since they are no longer a big threat to India. The situation is totally changed compared to 1990s.

@Raj-Hindustani
Let me ask you some questions.

What are taliban to India if they come to power by any means?
1- Terrorists
2 - Legitimate Afghan govt

Also,
Historically India has sided with anti Afghan factions in Afghanistan and continued to do so hoeever Indian side is ready to talk to Taliban for obvious reasons. The thing is that taliban are going to put forward their demands for cooperation and the most obvious would be to drop funding to NDS and all anti Taliban factions. They can also ask for money as a compensation for earlier Indian role. What is India going to do now?
