What's new

India spends 18.6% of its annual budget on military while 3.4% on health care

.
I don't know what India's Government budget is, that's why I commented on China's Government budget instead.

So, what is India's Government budget?

Then what is 18.6% of that? If it comes up with some ridiculous number like $400 billion then it is obviously incorrect.

You only see what you are being told to see by your rulers, You don't live in a democratic society, You guys are like a Bird in a Golden cage. (China has Almost 200 Billions +) US as 600 Plus Budget , we have 40 plus budget ONLY In 2014, the Chinese government released its official defense spending at 808.23 billion yuan ($131.57 billion) but We all know its 200 +

So you think China is a closed society yet you somehow know for SURE that our defence budget is double the official number?

Irrelevant anyway since the number we are talking about is almost 4 times as much. Nobody actually believes that.

Is this list correct?

List of government budgets by country - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It lists Indian Government revenues as $440 billion a year, which makes sense given the 5:1 GDP ratio from China to India.

Now 18.6% of $440 billion is $81 billion.

Whereas India's official defence spending for 2014 is around $45 billion.

So yes it seems the data in the OP is wrong by a big margin.
First off never believe what most of the Indian posters say here. The education is terrible(look up the education budget for that), which results even in the basic distinction between GDP and annual union budget incomprehensible for indian posters here, as you saw in some of the replies. Idiots don't even know what GDP is.
Second, never quote wikipedia! Wikipedia is edited by amateurs with no or out of context references and is the most inaccurate source of info on the web.
Official govt website: Union Budget 2014-2015 | National Portal of India
17948.920 billion rupees, which is about 269 billion USD.
Another book source which says 270 billion dollars. Business Marketing: Concepts and Cases - Google Books
And 18% of 270 comes to about 47 billion dollars.
And third, the state govt budgets are extremely paltry. Even in the prosperous southern states, the healthcare is only 5% of the total state govt budgets. In some of the northern states its less than 2 percent. And India is like the corruption king of Asia, and most of the corruption is concentrated in state governments. So you can reduce the 5% and <2% to half.
This is a country which buys gold plated fighter jets, and embarks on finding the compounds for basic necessities for life on other planets but can't provide the basic necessities for life for its people in its own land.

Comparison of Indian Healthcare budget with those of other nations is foolish, considering the fact Indian Govt Healthcare prescribes generic drugs, which do not include patent royalties, hence cost a low as 2% of the branded drug costs.

Its still less than the military spending. That was what I was pointing out.

. . .
our spending on military should be decreased from 23% to 10% and health budget should be increased to 4 to 5 percent at least

Instead if we just being just three of our big eaters namely PIA, PSM and PR to just no loss no profit then it would save lots of the money U r planning to cut from military.

In India, military spending is 18.6 percent of its total budget spending.
In India, health care spending is 3.4 percent of its total budget spending.

Talk about screwed up priorities.

Rich corrupt leaders hide this fact by rounding the military spending by the GDP, but GDP doesn't pay for the military, its the annual budget which does. By Annual budget, a poor country like India is spending lavishly on its military, while its citizens die everyday due to poor healthcare services.

How Countries Spend Their Money
Discussed and refuted during the release of India's budget earleir this year. As per new rules the induvidual states control healthcare spending and the figure quoted is to do with central allocation for healthcare not all India spends on healthcare. Also, the figure for "defence" at >18% includes spending on law enforcement agences like the CRPF, BSF, CISF etc which is not defenc spending.

ALl in all a highly misleading and entirely flawed analysis.
