USCIRF’s independence and bipartisanship enables it to unflinchingly identify threats to religious freedom around the world. In the 2021 Annual Report, USCIRF recommends 14 countries to the State Department for designation as “countries of particular concern” (CPCs) because their governments engage in or tolerate “systematic, ongoing, and egregious violations.” These include 10 that the State Department designated as CPCs in December 2020—Burma, China, Eritrea, Iran, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan—as well as four others—India, Russia, Syria, and Vietnam. For the first time ever, the State Department designated Nigeria as a CPC in 2020, which USCIRF had been recommending since 2009.

The 2021 Annual Report also recommends 12 countries for placement on the State Department’s Special Watch List (SWL) based on their governments’ perpetration or toleration of severe violations. These include two that the State Department placed on that list in December 2020—Cuba and Nicaragua—as well as 10 others—Afghanistan, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Turkey, and Uzbekistan. In 2021, USCIRF is not recommending SWL placement for Bahrain, the Central African Republic (CAR), and Sudan, which were among its SWL recommendations in its 2020 Annual Report. USCIRF has concluded that, although religious freedom concerns remain in all three countries, conditions last year did not meet the high threshold required to recommend SWL status.

Should be, but won't be. The Western nations collectively have given a free pass to Hindustan. India is allowed to lynch Indian Muslims. It is allowed to mistreat all of its minorities. You won't find any condemnation in Western capitals. India is a Western darling because in Western perception India is a counterweight to China. Of course India is no match for China.

The inclusion of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia is super random.. Tourists are actully following into Saudi Arabia everyone can enter there nowadays and it is said by first hand visitors it is safer then anywhere else in the world. So there inclusion is absolutely void and not based on research and the same goes to Pakistan while Tajikistan and Turkemenistan inclusion is the most bizarre and super random since both countries have non-muslim communities and thriving and safe and the same goes to the tourist aspect. I would add instead Hungry, Belarus and Sri-Lanka... To be fairly honest I would remove Russia from the list also

With a mass murderer ruling India, and unleashing hell on the minorities, India deserves to be notated as worse than just a country of particular concern. Since the regime derives so much inspiration from the Nazis, they should be treated as a Nazi regime.

No fan of Modi and Hindutva, but I think we need to be careful calling the Modi government Nazis. First, I think the term is used flippantly. Second, considering what the Nazis did -- establish a dictatorship and create a system to kill certain people (Jews) among other things -- I don't see that happening in India. Of course, we hear reports of China having concentration camps for Uighers, but not one calls them Nazis.

Well they are inspired by the Nazis, so the comparison is not far off place. Secondly, the Nazis were very much elected to power, much like the BJP here.

However, let's look at other recent dictators of the last century - Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot - all of them killed millions under the guise of greater good for society. I see the same happening here in India.

Sure other than Occupied Kashmir, and pretty much in every neighborhood where there is Muslim.

Disgusting to be anywhere near this list and a worry but cant see anyone replacing bjp anytime soon no decent opposition. To say millions will be killed is not going to happen but scapegoating and making Muslims feel like outsiders if you watch any documentary on dictators is the roadmap they use. This is not to deflect but how can some highlight what happening in India and rightly so but look the other way make excuses when it a close friendly country.

A credible political party needs to be in opposition to give a good fight in elections plus a strong opposition could stop some of the bjp policies.

That won't happen like I wrote before 220 million Indian Muslims plus the other minorities of our country won't let that happen the majority Hindus not bloodthirsty

What they doing is just wrong and they getting condemnation just not much here. But if bjp stays on this course they will alienate more Muslims until one spark will ignite a fire which could take years to bring under control and hurt any progress that we on. Our aim should be to prosper not become an intolerant country with religious violence and more authoritarian government. 10 year ago we could say here we night have riots in big cities but that not the norm and religious extremism across the border. Congress was not a saint they organized killing of my fellow Sikhs in Delhi and i wanted bjp in because I hated that party but thought religious hate won't be part of it stupid me. Was told and thought RSS rescued Sikh survivors in Delhi from congress mobs and they just a little nationalist secular machinery of state stop any of the religious based things

The Nazis were never elected to power. They seized it.

The last free election before the Nazis seized power was held in 1932. The results of the election are here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/November_1932_German_federal_election

The Nazis won a plurality but not a majority of seats in the Reichstag. In fact, they lost seats in this election compared to previous elections. Nevertheless, Hitler became co-Chancellor through political intrigue. Soon after, he seized power permanently. More details on how here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Hitler's_rise_to_power#Seizure_of_control_(1931–1933)

Eventually, the Nazis set the Reichstag on failure and blamed the Communists, using it as an excuse to seize total power.

Now you tell me, this is what is happening in India? For one thing, the BJP has won a majority in a free and fair election. They didn't seize power like the Nazis. Didn't burn down the Parliament. Or declare martial law. Didn't suspend the constitution. Suspend the free press.

Has the Modi government set up concentration camps to house Muslims? Is there a systematic attempt to kill minorities, including Muslims, or just random acts of violence perpetrated by a select few?

The time to worry about Modi and his ilk is when he actually behaves like a Nazi, but not before. Until then, let's treat him as the odious person he is.

India has been a communal country since independence. Whether the government was under Congress, BJP, or whatever, religion is a critical ingredient in the country's political make-up. If you want to reduce religion in politics, then rewrite the constitution and implement UCC.
