Indias biggest mosque to come up
Kerala : Estimated to cost Rs. 40 crore, Indias biggest mosque, capable of accommodating 25,000 people at a time, will come up on a 12-acre site Knowledge City complex of an Islamic centre of learning near Kozhikode.It will be one of Indias important Islamic cultural centres,said sources at the Jamia Markazu Ssaquafathi Ssunniyya, an education and cultural organisation.
The building would cover eight acres and would be surrounded by a four-acre green belt and beautiful garden. Besides a vast prayer hall, the complex would have an auditorium for seminars, a huge library and facilities to accommodate over
1000 people at a time
Thrissur-based architect Riyaz Muhammad, the designer of the mosque, said it would be based on the Mughal architectural style. Located at Karanthur, about 10 km from Kozhikode, Markazu is an Islamic centre of learning and charity.
Jamia Markazu Ssaqafathi Ssunniyya is an Islamic university in Kerala, India, operating since 1978. It has roughly 10,000 students studying Quran, Hadith, Fiqh, Arts, Science and Technology under different institutes from various parts of india. .It aims to strengthen the moral character of the Muslim society by developing the leadership capacities of Ulama and the Muslim umma.. Al-Azhar University of Cairo has extended its recognition to courses taught by the Jamia Markazu Ssaqafati Ssunniyya.. Sheikh Aboobacker Ahmed,(Kanthapuram Abubaker Musliyar) secretary-general of the Markaz managing committee heads the organization.
