In World Bank’s electricity accessibility ranking 2017, India has risen to rank 26 from 99th spot in the year 2014, Power Minister Piyush Goyal has said.

“Our ranking has improved to 26 position from 99. So, it is truly very redeeming feature and satisfying for me that Prime Minister’s vision particularly to take electricity to every home, particularly to make electricity access very easy, particularly to make energy affordable is being furthered very rapidly,” the minister said in London.

He also said with confidence that by the year 2019, that is three years ahead of its original schedule, government would be able to make every household power efficient.

He told that a close working is being done by the government with the states in order to check if electricity was made available on tap.

“A person should be able to apply for electricity connection. If there is infrastructure available... get it in 24 hours. If an infrastructure needs to be created he should get in less than one week,” the minister said.

Detailing on energy access to all, the minister said at the Vienna Energy Forum, held on May 11, everyone was actually impressed about India that has actually led the global efforts by its action to address the challenge of the planet change.

Energy access was the topic more focused upon. Across Vienna energy forum, everyone praised that India has actually led the global efforts by its action to address the challenge of planet change.

The government’s rural electrification programme is proceeding on a quick basis, with over 13,000 villages electrified out of a total of 18,452 and is on track for completion within the targeted 1,000 days.

Def a solid achievement & I applaud the BJP-NDA government, but we need to do more, bridge the gap and have electricity provided to the farthest reach of rural areas.

.
BJP has done some remarkable things, one being power sector.

Their building of toilets has potential to save tens of thousands of lives per year.
Add the focus on distributing LPG to remotest corners of India by gifting free kits, a sure shot winner.

Sincerely wish they get another 3 terms just to see what all they can achieve.

It is the duty of the states also , to co-operate with the centre

If only we had more effective/efficient sharp & thinking people, with long term visibility for the country, running the country since independence most of our todays problem would have been non-existent!!

.
Its not only availability but also affordability thats crucial.
India is already energy plus but are we going to provide free electricity to the villagers ? Or kundi system is going to prevail .
Our growth should reach the poor classes or ppl like u and me just become richer and no amount of accessible electricity helps.

Very good point! I hope this ranking is not based on "the number of electrified Villages" , instead it should be based on the number of electrified HOMES. Nevertheless, it is still a great progress. Congratulations!

On the very rare occasion we are in agreement! Kudos

Few of the initiatives that are giving results now...
Kudos to Piyush Goyel.

Now affordable housing is what India should concentrate on. This will revolutionize infrastructure sector and create millions of new jobs.

Saw Piyush Goyal's video on whatsapp. The way he was warning UP Power officials must have sent shivers down their spine.

In some time from now, 100% electrification shall take place. Gujarat and Madhyapradesh are already load shading free states. We can hope that few more states shall join it very soon. The most important thing which has happened to Indian power sector is that tariff of Solar electricity has gone down like anything and it is under Rs 2.50 now. In all probability, it will go down under Rs 2. A resource free, pollution free electricity available at under rs 2 per KWPH is nothing less than a blessing of goad. We are a country of lots of sun shine and we can use it. A huge quantity of water and coal and petroleum shall be saved. There will be no pollution and it will be damn cheap. India is all set to revolutionize Power sector and there is no doubt about it.
