" On the parameters of Multi-dimensional Poverty Index (MPI), which identifies multiple deprivations in the same households in education, health and living standards, India's 55.3 per cent of population were multi-dimensionally poor while an additional 18.2 per cent were near multi-dimensional poverty, the report said."

A very vital stat, This needs to be addressed on priority, MPI is the most nearly accurate measurement of acute poverty world wide

India would have been ranked 120 if not for poor percentage of women in employment.

According to the MPI matrice ,I'm also NMDP.Specifically when it comes Electricity,Water and Sanitation.

The MPI assesses poverty at the individual level. If someone is deprived in a third or more of ten (weighted) indicators (see left), the global index identifies them as ‘MPI poor’, and the extent – or intensity – of their poverty is measured by the number of deprivations they are experiencing.

We need time to recover from the wounds left by terrorism, but ahead all i see if a bright future. We had a 4.5% growth rate despite fighting "war on terror" our most costliest war with over 70 billion dollars in damages alone and 60 thousand dead. Now, imagine what our growth rate will be now that the terrorists are holed up on Shawal valley and surrounded, we will have the key to unlock our economic potential that can leave many countries far behind.

Wether you like it or not, we have a bright future.

In our state still we have a worse poverty rate only according to numbers in govt papers. .But in reality our situation is quite different .
Only BIMARU states shares majority of this. And that is around half of our population.

The number of 55.3% was taken from a 2005/2006 survey if you look at where the UN took it from. Thats nearly 10 years old.

Going strictly by the income poverty by world bank (1.90 USD PPP), About 38% of Indians fell under this income level in 2004 and about 31% in 2009. So lets say the poverty rate in 2005/2006 was about 36% by this measure.

Poverty headcount ratio at $1.90 a day (2011 PPP) (% of population) | Data | Table

This correlates to about 65% that of the multi-dimenstional measure in the same period.

The world bank now says the poverty in India in 2011 by income was 21% and may be as low as 12%:

(Box 2 page 12)

So in 2011 we can safely say the multidimensional poverty rate is also much lower now...and even lower in later years. If it followed the same 65% ratio, it could be as low as 20% as far back as 2011.
