The Hindu : News / National : Runaway grandmother sparked savage skirmish on LoC

"The construction work — barred by the terms of the Line of Control ceasefire which India and Pakistan agreed on in 2003 — provoked furious protests from Pakistani troops. Indian commanders, the military source said, conceded that the construction was in violation of the ceasefire."

Just came across this article.

Indians are now admitting that they started this round of LOC skirmishes by violating ceasefire.

Now we know why they did not want an impartial inquiry. The GOI knew and could not entertain the possibility of a neutral party making an inquiry into this matter. Kudos to journalists across the border for exposing this.

The desire for peace is much stronger than calls for war on both sides of the border. Now we know who is who on this forum too.

Mods, I felt that this news was important enough to merit a thread, because it points to an ever-present trend. Namely arrogance of many Indians who assume that Pakistanis are just dying to have peace.

Relax! You don't need to die for peace with India! If you guys keep dying, then there would be no one left to speak to!! :cheesy:

The construction work — barred by the terms of the Line of Control ceasefire which India and Pakistan agreed on in 2003 — provoked furious protests from Pakistani troops. Indian commanders, the military source said, conceded that the construction was in violation of the ceasefire.

However, they refused to stop work, arguing that the posts faced out towards the village, posing no threat to Pakistan. Early in October, the official said, tensions began to escalate. Pakistan even made announcements over a public address system, demanding that Indian troops end the construction work.

Following the announcement, shells followed. Pakistani troops fired mortar and high-calibre automatic weapons at Indian forward positions. The fire missed its intended target, but killed three villagers, 25-year-old Mohammad Shafi Khatana, 20-year-old Shaheena Bano, and a ninth-grade school student, Liaqat Ali. In the weeks leading up to the New Year, military sources said, hardly a week went by without occasional shots being fired at troops headed to the new observation posts.

In the weeks leading up to the New Year, military sources said, hardly a week went by without occasional shots being fired at troops headed to the new observation posts.

Finally, on January 6, matters came to a head. Following a low-grade exchange of fire that night, 19 Infantry Division commander Gulab Singh Rawat sought and obtained permission for aggressive action against the Pakistani position from where his troops were being targeted.

Few details have emerged on the attack, but government sources in New Delhi said a Pakistani Border Action Team — assault units that in the past have been reported to consist of both jihadists and members of the élite Special Services Group — are believed to have carried out the attack.

“It is almost certainly a retaliation for what happened in Charonda”, a military official in New Delhi said. “This kind of thing has often happened in the past, though it hasn’t got quite so much media attention.”

The article reveals that this has been happening since long from both the sides.

How come only this time it got so much media attention ?

BTW, the article clearly tells it was Pakistan who violated the ceasefire

India responsible intruding inside Pakistan.

India responsible for killing Pakistani soldier.

India responsible for killing its own soldiers.

India responsible for running propaganda.

Indians responsibe for their own chest pain from excessive chest thumping.

......

Last year, for example, there was fierce fighting Karnah, some 140 kilometres from Srinagar after two Indian soldiers were beheaded in an attack on a forward position by a Border Action Team. Indian special forces responded by targeting a Pakistani forward post, killing several soldiers and, by the account of one military official, which The Hindu could not corroborate independently, beheaded two.

Isn't this the incident , Coldhearted aviator was telling us about yesterday involving his friend ?

People are still blaming Pakistan for all this?

When Indians violate the ceasefire, what do they expect? Flowers? Who started this, I ask you?

I am not quoting anything out of context, just highlighting what started all this. The whole article is there for anyone to read. Look at the source, the headline. The skewness of perspective jumps out. Just notice a 70 yr old granny being blamed as if she started all this; of course it is an Indian source after all.

How can people expect peace after Indians show such arrogance? What did they do after Paksitanis protested. Just ignored the protest and kept at it.

our friend here seems to have cherry picked the sentences here, the same article also mention this

Nope, just highlighted the Indian role in starting this latest skirmish. There were alternatives to the brazen violation of ceasefire. But IA just ignored Pakistani protests. Were they expecting flowers for this?

Make a 12 foot wall, mine the 100 meters along LOC. Let them cry.

That will be illegal act by india. But it would quite a show watching indiansoldiers dying left and right with explosive and construction. When is this bollywood junk coming?

The crux of the matter is that ceasefire violations will happen from either side from time to time and soldiers will die. That is almost inevitable given the nature of relations between India and Pak .

But this beheading and mutilating the dead bodies business from Pakistani side has to stop. Respect the dead.

Another admission:

“Let’s just put it this way,” a senior government official in New Delhi said, “there was no formal permission to stage a cross-border raid to target Sawan Patra. However, in the heat of fighting, these things have been known to happen. Pakistan has done this, and our forces have done this, ever since fighting began in Jammu and Kashmir in 1990.”

So Pakistanis were right about Indians conducting a raid across LOC. That is just great. Three soldiers are dead, peace process is threatened, dumb allegations are flying about how Pakistanis are barbarians and when semi-credible information trickles out, we find that Pakistanis were right after all. Indians act as though they own IOK, LOC, and Azad Kashmir as well.

How can peace succeed in face of such arrogance?

Saying that ceasefire violations will happen is a bad excuse for Indian behavior during a fragile peace process.

Pakistani narrative is in the process of being vindicated. India started this, Indians ignored our protests, Indians conducted a cross-LOC raid, and Indians have been crying about a beheading, which most likely did not take place.
