NEW DELHI: The world is home to 1.2 crore millionaires with collective net worth reaching a record high of USD 46.2 trillions, with India clocking the second highest growth of 22.2 per cent in its HNI population last year after Hong Kong, a report said today.

According to the World Wealth Report 2013, released by Capgemini and RBC Wealth Management, the investable wealth of the world's High Net Worth Individuals (HNWIs) rebounded in 2012, growing by 10 per cent to reach a record high of USD 46.2 trillion, after declining 1.7 per cent in 2011.

As many as one million individuals joined the global HNWI population, which reached 12 million, reflecting an increase of 9.2 per cent.

"HNWI population increases were strong in 2012. However, North America's lead in both population and wealth is likely to be eclipsed again in the future by Asia-Pacific," Capgemini Global Financial Services Chief Sales and Marketing Officer Jean Lassignardie said.

Among the Asia Pacific countries, Hong Kong experienced a 35.7 per cent increase in its HNWIs population, followed by India, with 22.2 per cent growth.

Last year, India was surpassed by Vietnam in terms of GDP per capita..

So it seems that the gap between rich and poor is increasing in India.

Pakistan and India are neck and neck in GDP per capita.

India: $1,492

Pakistan: $1,296

Seems like everyone will surpass India if their growth rate continues to fall.

Yes that is for sure. The economic scene will remain the same till there is a change in government at the center.

Mohdi I am guessing?

What are his economic policies? Socialist, libertarian, state capitalism, what exactly?

Not really modi but right now the problem is there is no party with single majority so the current government is reduced to a sitting duck. Next year things will change because people will vote for the opposite party (BJP) thus getting a majority.

We require a party which is strong and gets majority votes so that they can take strong decisions. Modi is just some guy who is in the right place at the right time.

One important thing to note is that a country the size of India has to develop and the economy has to improve because of the shear size of things.

If Indians simply practiced some Eugenics then the country would have a much improved intelligence.

Right now, the rural people have a much higher fertility rate than the urban people. It is a well-known fact that urban people are generally more intelligent than rural people all over the world.

If this gap is not closed quickly, then you are going to have far more serious problems than just economic development.
