India ready to talk on Kashmir

NEW DELHI (updated on: February 21, 2010, 09:50 PST): India has assured that the meeting between the Pakistan and Indian foreign secretaries would also discuss confidence-building measures on Kashmir, Aaj News reported on Sunday.

In a meeting with People's Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday, Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram said bottlenecks in the smooth conduct of trade on the occupied Srinagar-Muzaffarabad and Poonch-Rawalakot routes would also be addressed.

He said his government was keen to resolve the traders' problems, who are complaining of lack of facilities and a faulty system. He told Mufti that the government was considering adequate banking facilities, including allowing the occupied Jammu and Kashmir Bank to open up its branches in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Yes I know,but at least a form of bilateral relationship is stabilize,better than nothing.And I prefer a million talks to stabilise the relationship than cold wars between both this countries.

New Delhi: Committed to discuss only terrorism, India may also broach the issue of the across-Line of Control trade and other confidence building measures for Kashmiris during the foreign secretary-level talks here with Pakistan on Thursday.

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram gave this indication to Jammu and Kashmir Peoples' Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti, who came calling on him to New Delhi on Saturday to point out bottlenecks bringing the trade between two Kashmirs with much fanfare coming to almost a grinding halt.

Chidambaram assured Mehbooba that the government was keen to resolve the traders' problems of lack of facilities and may push with Pakistan foreign minister to allow opening of branches of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir for trade purposes.

Sources said that the Reserve Bank of India is sitting on the J&K Bank's application for opening a branch in Muzaffarabad, capital of ***, as it has to be reciprocal allowing a Pakistan bank to have its branches in India. The RBI did not agree for permission to a bank suggested by Islamabad initially for opening branches in Srinagar and Jammu, the sources added.

Chidambaram assured Mehbooba to better the infrastructure facilities at Salamabad and Poonch trade centres to facilitate more across-LoC trade.

She also complained that the across-LoC bus travel, started back in 2005, has also lost sheen due to severe security and cumbersome procedures as very few people are now taking the bus service.

She said the government's decision to allow surrender of Kashmiri youths to return home from *** would gain credibility only when he liberalises existing travel facilities for ordinary citizens as divided families continue to suffer due to cumbersome procedures.

And that proves India is not willing to resolve this issue. India is at the position of advantage and with the attitude it has towards South Asian Countries resolution of Kashmir without a war is fantasy.

There are some issues on which India and pakistan will never see eye to eye, one of them being Kashmir and other being terrorism.

For pakistan Kashmir comes first and for India Terrorism comes first. The issue is like Egg first or Chicken first.

Pakistan says solve kashmir issue first and their wont be any terrorism from pakistan ( I personally call it blackmailing). India says solve Terrorism eminating from pakistan and then we can solve kashmir.

Only solution being accepting status quo and living with it, without living in the machismo land of forcefully occupying each others country.
