The White House is taking a hands-off approach to this crisis, characterised by Donald Trump’s Oval Office comment on Tuesday that "it’s a shame”.

Today he says there is a “tit-for-tat”, and he wants “to see it stop”, but without specifying how.

The US State Department said on Tuesday night it was monitoring the situation but is still yet to update that statement.

The lack of an explicit American call for restraint since the Indian strikes, leaving other countries to fill that diplomatic void, reflects the US’s strengthening ties with India over recent years, and the relative isolation of Pakistan, with which the US has long had a more troubled relationship.

It appears the White House has been attempting to leave Delhi with space to act. But that approach might not last long.

During the last major crisis between India and Pakistan in 2019, the Trump administration at first fully-backed what it saw as India’s right to target militants who had struck in Indian-administered Kashmir, but quickly turned to calls for de-escalation as the crisis rapidly escalated.

India's strikes on Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir have unleashed a wave of misinformation online, with unrelated videos purporting to be from the strikes gaining millions of views.

Dramatic clips debunked by BBC Verify have claimed to show attacks on an Indian army base and an Indian fighter jet shot down in Pakistan.

One video, which had more than 400,000 views on X at the time of writing, claiming to show an explosion caused by a Pakistani response was actually from the 2020 Beirut Port explosion in Lebanon.

An expert told BBC Verify that in moments of heightened tension or dramatic events, misinformation is more likely to spread and fuel distrust and hostility.

So you have existed on this forum atleast for some years and still fail at using your brain to understand what long range AGM's are and how they can be launched from a stand off distance without entering the territory of the other country?

Again, I am seriously not blaming you. Because the only positive that Pakistan can take from this is that your establishment was well prepared with social media warfare. Pakistan clearly won there. But that has its own downside, especially after battle ends and question starts. It will need to make clear how many jets out of those claimed fives are Indians and how many are Pakistanis. But as I said, India is not playing social media game as of now. Even while we speak, Pakistani territory is being penetrated deep by Indian drones. Your Lahore Airport has been attacked in day broadlight. And also a Ground Radar. It's no more a retaliation of pahalgam, India is now playing with your military. Every city is now being exposed. Not by killing civilians. Question youbshould ask your army chief is not how many kills they made but how the hell did India even reach Karachi, Pindi, etc in broad day light.

You really think India cares about its drone being intercepted? Anyway they are kamikaze birds. but understand the message - India is for a long haul. If your brain was working and eyes open, there has already been proof of at least 3 Indian jets crashing inside Indian territory, claimed by "INDIAN" media, and based on Tweets by common folk from within India who were on location.

No sir. Both Indian express and The Hindu newspaper failed to identify the aircraft if any. Also the lady responsible for wrong news is now also retracting her opinion after being asked about detailed specifications. Again, I do not deny jet crash, but you should wait before declaring it was an Indian aircraft.Thats because Indian side is confident of what they have secured. Also don't you think when Pakistani PM claims openly that 5 (that's a big number) aircrafts have been downed then where are the specific proof ? Where are the other locations ? Locking system images ? Any thing substantial like they did in 2019? Let me tell you something in India media works differently, it should have been out in open if there were such realities.

Just because you are rich does not mean that you have no burden of proof. Pakistani government made a gracious attempt by calling for international investigation of the Pahalgam incident.
