WASHINGTON, Describing India as an "incredibly dynamic country", a top US lawmaker has said there are a broad spectrum of opportunities, including in the economic sector, for the two countries to collaborate.

House member Peter Roskam, the newly-elected Republican co-chair of the Congressional caucus on India and Indian Americans, made the comment during a meeting on Friday with the Indian Ambassador Nirupama Rao on Capitol Hill.

Roskam, who is participating in a Congressional delegation visiting India next week, said that he looked forward to using his visit to learn more about India, and to help the House India Caucus in advancing the India-US strategic partnership.

He also spoke warmly about the Indian friends he had known since his childhood and said there were shared values and complementarities between India and the US, according to an Indian Embassy media release.

Rao, in turn, gave an overview of the current economic outlook of India and agreed with Roskam about the bright prospects for business and economic cooperation between the two countries, it said.

Both she and Roskam also praised the role played by the Indian American community in taking this relationship forward.

Earlier Thursday, Rao hosted a welcome reception at her residence for two newly elected House members, Ami Bera, the only Indian American member of US Congress, and Tulsi Gabbard the first ever Hindu-American to be elected to the US House.

The presence of Bera and Gabbard in the US Congress "brings great meaning to our mission and our task of taking US-India relations further forward to greater and greater heights," she said.

Throughout their lives, they have been touched by the spirit of India and by the message of great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi who personified the spirit of selfless service in the cause of freedom and democracy, Rao said.

She also wished them great success in the cause of serving their country and building friendship between two great countries - India and the United States

We should ignore all the praises and look into all the evils in our society, governance, behaviour and work overtime to eradicate all those evils from the root. For great and ancient civilization of our it is shame that we are still not among the most developed nations. We should not distract ourselves with what we achieved or had in past but where we can go in the future. 21st century should be Indian century and we all have to contribute on it.

funny that these nations which were formed few centuries back look to their mother and call her 'dynamic',well, that shows their stupidity. The age of Indian culture makes these nations look like kids.

yes my child, even you are beautiful, but you are also an arrogant kid.

And now India are not only touched, but bombarded by the spirit of corruption and by the rants of the great a$$holes like the Akbar Owaisis and Thogadias who personify the spirit of dis-service in the cause of communalism and fascism!

arrogant??? not at all, but you are right, presently we are in very bad situation, most of our leaders lack vision and insight into people's wishes, they are more into dividing than uniting, we lack integrity and sense of sovereignty. we are too much diversified.Worst of all , we Indians don't respect each other.we lack the will to dominate.

some inspiring quotes:
Will Durant, American historian: "India was the motherland of our race, and Sanskrit the mother of Europe's languages: she was the mother of our philosophy; mother, through the Arabs, of much of our mathematics; mother, through the Buddha, of the ideals embodied in Christianity; mother, through the village community, of self-government and democracy. Mother India is in many ways the mother of us all".

Mark Twain, American author: "India is, the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the great grand mother of tradition. our most valuable and most instructive materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only."

Albert Einstein, American scientist:
"We owe a lot to the Indians, who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery could have been made."

Max Mueller, German scholar
: If I were asked under what sky the human mind has most fully developed some of its choicest gifts, has most deeply pondered on the greatest problems of life, and has found solutions, I should point to India.

Romain Rolland, French scholar
: "If there is one place on the face of earth where all the dreams of living men have found a home from the very earliest days when man began the dream of existence, it is India."

Henry David Thoreau, American Thinker & Author: Whenever I have read any part of the Vedas, I have felt that some unearthly and unknown light illuminated me. In the great teaching of the Vedas, there is no touch of sectarianism. It is of all ages, climbs, and nationalities and is the royal road for the attainment of the Great Knowledge. When I read it, I feel that I am under the spangled heavens of a summer night.

R.W. Emerson, American Author:
In the great books of India, an empire spoke to us, nothing small or unworthy, but large, serene, consistent, the voice of an old intelligence, which in another age and climate had pondered and thus disposed of the questions that exercise us.

Keith Bellows, National Geographic Society : "There are some parts of the world that, once visited, get into your heart and won't go. For me, India is such a place. When I first visited, I was stunned by the richness of the land, by its lush beauty and exotic architecture, by its ability to overload the senses with the pure, concentrated intensity of its colors, smells, tastes, and sounds... I had been seeing the world in black & white and, when brought face-to-face with India, experienced everything re-rendered in brilliant technicolor."

Why do you think India is 'mother' civilization and others are 'children'. Just because older or anything else..
there are others who are older civilization than us too..

if you had cared to open your eyes for a moment and read what i had written in the beginning, you wouldn't have opened your mouth for another round of ranting, here, this what i said in the beginning.

no fool here is denying that we are in SH!T, but we are not a nation of fools who lack identity or face an identity crisis, the quotes were just to show that we are recognized and praised, this was not any chest thumping, it was just to show that there are many things we can learn form our past and march ahead.

and one more thing, India was described as mother not because of any old civilization, but because of the contributions in the field of medicine, maths, astrology, languages etc.

All is well and good. We all are very proud of it. We are lucky to have born in India which is one of the oldest and brightest civilization.

However, we should not be relying only on past and boast on the achievements our ancestors did 1000 years ago. We should work towards the greater India where our generations after 1000 years boast about us. So again I say ignore all the praises, forget all the achievements and start to work afresh to remove all the evils in our society to make India realise its true potential once again.

Very kind of him to think well of India.

Wish the dynamism would show in our actions & daily lives not just in Scams.
