WASHINGTON: India retained its position as the world's top recipient of remittances with its diaspora sending a whopping $79 billion back home in 2018, the World Bank said in a report on Monday......

With this, India has retained its top spot on remittances, according to the latest edition of the World Bank's migration and development brief.

Over the last three years, India has registered a significant flow of remittances from $62.7 billion in 2016 to $65.3 billion 2017.

"Remittances grew by more than 14 percent in India, where a flooding disaster in Kerala likely boosted the financial help that migrants sent to families," the bank said.

If we go by figures its 10 times the neighbors Forex reserves.
And almost 1/5 of our Forex reserves.

Having said Pakistan makes a lot more via remittances at $20bn.
Going by that number we only make 1/2 of that given our population size.

Remittances should be compared with similar stats from Pakistan...and it is increasing with new incentives.

Pakistan remittances may hit $22 billion in 2018-19. Pakistan is expected to receive remittances worth a record 22 billion dollars in financial year 2018-19 as the government has offered an incentive package to overseas workers to attract more money through official banking channels.
