Shillong: Claiming that Indo-Bangla relations have reached new heights after Sheikh Hasina-led government came to power in Bangladesh, Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor has said India is "strongly" committed to the neighbouring country's economic development.

"India is strongly committed towards Bangladesh?s economic development and the prosperity of their people. We see Bangladesh's success as an investment in our own security and prosperity," Tharoor said here last night.

Tharoor is here on a two-day visit to attend an international seminar on From Landlocked to Landbuilt: North East India in BIMSTEC at the North East Hill University.

He said the visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to India recently "marked a new increase in momentum in the friendship between the two countries".

"We have found there had been tremendous increase not only in the actual co-operation, but also a wonderful improvement in the spirit of cooperation. So in every respect, I would say that the state, the health and the prospect of Indo-Bangladesh relationship have been very good," he said.

Asked what significant gains India has received out of the cooperation, Tharoor said, "Sometimes, in such relationships it is best not to speak of what one gets and what one gives."

"Of course there has to be give and take, but the important thing is that we have a mutual understanding for each other's needs and priorities," he said.

Tharoor said India would like to see Bangladesh "doing well".

Referring to cooperation in the field of connectivity, transport, roads, security and other projects, Tharoor said the relationship between the two countries is now on "new heights" and the current picture was that of mutual respect.

India committed to Bangladesh`s economic development: Tharoor

^^^^^^

There is no doubt about it. But some elements who hates Bangladesh and India wanna seed misunderstanding between us. So brother Bangladesh remain undeveloped.

Make sure that India have enough food for its own people too.

If India does not help it's neighbours, then India is a hegemonic nation with nefarious designs. And if India does help countries in it's neighbourhood, then it shall first make sure, the solutions for it's own domestic problems first.

Mt. Everest of hypocrisy.
