India filed charges against five Hindu activists for their involvement in the 2007 bombing of a Pakistan-bound train that killed 68 people, an attack initially blamed on Muslim extremists.

Two of the accused are in custody, one is dead and two others are absconding, the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement today in New Delhi. The National Investigation Agency told a special court in the northern state of Haryana that the men conspired to cause the blasts to avenge attacks on Hindu temples, the statement said.

Explosions ripped through two carriages of the Samjhauta Express near Panipat, about 90 kilometers (56 miles) north of New Delhi, on Feb. 18, 2007. Most of those killed were Pakistanis travelling home. Samjhauta means concord in Hindi and the service was started to forge closer links between the people in the nuclear-armed neighbors and rivals.

Indian investigators initially suspected terrorist groups based in Pakistan were responsible for the explosions aboard the biweekly service that links New Delhi and Lahore in Pakistan.:hang2: India and Pakistan said the attack was aimed at disrupting their peace process.

Holding Islamist groups responsible for a series of blasts at Hindu temples in India, the accused had sought revenge against the Muslim community, according to the statement. The train was chosen as a target most of the passengers who travel on it are Pakistanis, it said.

Hyderabad Blast

One of those charged today, Swami Aseemanand, also known as Naba Kumar Sarkar, “not only provided financial and logistical support to the terror group which executed” the bombing “but also played a vital role in instigating and motivating his associates to undertake this terrorist act,” said the statement.
Aseemanand May 12 denied any role in the blasts when he appeared at a bail hearing, the Press Trust of India reported. Aseemanand was earlier charged by the NIA as one of the main conspirators behind a 2007 bombing at a mosque in the southern city of Hyderabad that killed nine people.

Peace talks between India and Pakistan were finally broken off in the wake of the 2008 guerrilla assault on Mumbai, in which 166 people died. India blames the Pakistan-based Lashkar- e-Taiba militant group for carrying out the raid and has demanded that Pakistan dismantle the group.

The neighbors restarted peace efforts last year and their foreign secretaries will hold the latest round of talks this week.

India always initially suspect Pakistan for every incident that occurs in India. But it is back fired normally. Where the hell is Col. Purohit??????

damn......where is Col. Purohit :hitwall:

Just proves India seriously fights terrorism and does not require external country to tell them what to do. We are not selective, good Taliban, bad Taliban etc.

where is Col. Purohit
He is in Jail where he was suppose to be, no one is complaining.

Where is Hafeez Saeed, Angoor Kha rahe honge ISI ke haanth se.

True and hence Pakistan has done nothing so far for Mumbai attacks, just put more psoitive light on India I say.

.
All those who are talking about Col. Purohit, if he was guity, he would have faced the music or is now seeing the consequences of his action. Just because somebody in Pakistan believes he did it without *any* proof but basing their opinion on hearsay or media should start talking sense.

Exactly. Shows the differnce in the way India deals with such issues with an iron fist. I agree it has taken a lot of time but justice is done.

We found it, we captured him, without anyone from Pakistan giving any proof. Neither we asked them to prove anything.

It also proves that how seriously you gave clean chit to your army for its involvement.
