India Bans Many Chinese Goods for Being Sub-Standard
Credit: News18.com
India and China are going through a rough patch now. After China backstabbed India by vetoing the proposal to declare Masood Azhar as wanted terrorist, India had given visa to prominent Chinese dissident Dolkun Isa. However, India cancelled the visa yesterday.
In recent news, India has now banned import of milk and milk products among other things from China. The other items that can not be imported from China after this ban are certain mobile phones and some other steel products. India has banned these products for being sub-standard or for not following security codes.
Nirmala Sitharaman, in the Lok Sabha, said that India has banned import of milk and milk products from China due to the poor quality of the same. She added that some mobile phones from China have been banned as these mobile phones do not have International Mobile Station Equipment Identity number. These mobiles also lack other security features.
“Complete ban of import from any country is not possible now due to WTO rules even if we have problems diplomatically, territorially or militarily,” she added.
This is a good step by India to eliminate poor quality Chinese goods from Indian markets in order to improve standards in India. This will also help the local manufacturers capture the market.
