Ask or beg?

It might have some points in reducing the ever increasing trade deficit in the context that the so-called Make-in-india initiative propels more electronic components import from China. And india-labeled rice and beef will not be as welcome as they think when Thai rice and Australian beef are well established in Chinese market for their high quality and strict abidance to agricultural regulations.

However, if China agrees to import, in return, China will definitely get something, probably wider electronic components export to india. The deal might be more beneficial to China since Chinese consumers are well informed of the origin of imported agriculture products. They will choose Thai rice and Australian beef anyway.

India asks China to import agri-products like rice & sugar

NEW DELHI: Seeking greater cooperation in agriculture trade, India today asked neighbouring China to import a wide range of items from it such as rice, sugar, maize and dried grapes.

Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh met his Chinese counterpart Qui Dongyu on the sidelines of BRICS agri-meet here and asked China to consider importing these products from India.

"I am looking forward for more and more cooperation in agriculture and allied sectors between the two countries leading to further strengthening of bilateral relations," Singh said in a statement.

He said China can explore the possibility of importing agricultural items including live plants, coconut, cashew nuts, banana, pepper, shorghum, coconut oil, oil cake, which India has a potential to export.

Singh also expressed satisfaction over the progress made in finalising a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China on sanitary and phyto-sanitary (SPS) issues

He said the MoU is "inching towards finality".

In 2015-16, India's export to China stood at USD 875.13 million, while imports were at USD 284.18 million.

India exports agri-items such as fish, prawns, shrimp, cotton and castor oil, and imports kidney beans, apples, pears and bamboos.

Considering that India has slapped 16 anti-dumping duties against China that Chinese govt. mouthpiece was railing against a couple of days back. It'd be pretty sure reciprocated.

After all, because of our moves, Chinese electronics manufacturer's have moved massively to set up shops in India.

win-win
It'a great for Chinese companies, making the best of extremely cheap labor in India for low-skill work and better access to the market, in the meantime, middle-high end components suppliers back home can make the most profit by centering on automation and moving up value chain with the educated high-skill labor.

Good!
If China needs to import agri-products , i hope we import those goods from asian countries like India/PK/Laos/Thai etc ,but not USA.
China and India should focus on how to make money but not nagging futile questions like " When will India/China attack us?"

China had just lifted ten-year ban on American beef. But we all know they use chemicals to reduce fat in animals. The origin labeling of all imported products must be strictly implemented. People will judge themselves by reading the label of origin.

That is the logical economic move.

If i were XI, I would put the usa beef in the ban list for ever .

I suggest you to see " Food Factory" and you will see the real face of USA beef.

We should not choose USA beef when we have some other better alternative like Au or Ind .

To be honest Indian rice which is exported is Basmati is totally different from east Asian rice. Size, texture, taste everything is different. If a Chinese wants to try an Indian dish it will taste better with Indian Basmati rice. And like how Indian food is really popular in west, I see a similar trend in China in near future. As Chinese become richer they would want more variety. Even more in case they turn vegetarian.

Believe me Chinese will never turn vegetarian.

Doesn't matter, the Chinese side needs to address this huge deficit if they want to sustain trade between our 2 nations. This massive deficit=it is your favor isn't sustainable for us

Fortunately, the Indians only know that China exports to India electronic products, but also do not know China's exports to India heavy machinery

No one likes the trade deficit. China is the same. China is larger than India a lot of countries - 9.6 million square kilometers, 1.3 billion population. Covering 5 time zones. Such a large country and a large number of people, everywhere need money.

China can definitely sell more machinery to india.

I don't think Chinese want to become physically weak and have shorter life expectancy.

You are joking right?
Are you suggesting that Govt. of India is unaware of what India imports from China?

The Heavy machinery and also capital goods do not harm Indian industry at the moment. When the time comes that Indian industry produces enough of these and they need protection, GoI will move against these products as well.

Ultimately, trade has to help the nation.
