India and Commonwealth Games.. will india show its power??

Thats a good question. Some athletes have been doing really well at International level recently, but athletes in India where never given too much importance thanks to cricket, but times are changing now, gradually the support for athletes are showing as they are performing.
It would be great to see India leading the pack.

During the youth commonwealth games held in pune in the yera 2008 India had dominated the tally with 76 medals while Australia won 65 medals and England 41 medals. wea re hoping Indian atheletes will keep up the performance this year also

hanks to the Commonwealth Games (CWG), the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) may soon find its name in the Guinness Book of Records. DTC's Millennium Park Bus Depot, which will provide buses to athletes, delegates and mediapersons during the 10-day sporting extravaganza, has come up as the world's largest depot for buses.
Spread over a sprawling 60-acre-plot, along the western banks of the Yamuna, the parking can accommodate 1,000 buses at any given point in time.

The Millennium Park depot has overtaken the Central Bus Station, located in Tel Aviv (Israel), which is spread over 57 acres and can accommodate 800 buses.

Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit inaugurated the Millennium Park bus parking facility and logistics centre on Friday.

Constructed by the Public Works Department (PWD), the Rs. 61-crore bus depot was built in less than a year.

"We got the approval for this parking in four phases, starting September 2009. The last approval came in April 2010. We have spent Rs. 3 crore from the sanctioned amount on construction of this facility," Delhi PWD minister Rajkumar Chauhan said.

The bus depot has five bus parking-cum-scanning centres, eight washing pits, four huge water tanks for washing buses, two separate tanks for fire reserve and drinking water, seven dormitories, where 500 persons can stay and two CNG filling stations.

Delhi police have also set up a cargo scanner and command centre especially for the Commonwealth Games.

"This depot will provide 600 buses during the Games for athletes and delegates. After the Games, it will be used as a normal DTC bus depot," Delhi transport minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said.

Games press centre inaugurated

New Delhi, Sep 20 (IANS) Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni Monday inaugurated the state-of-the-art main press centre (MPC) of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) here.

The press centre, which is one of the largest in the history of Commonwealth Games, was inaugurated in the presence of CWG Organizing Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi.

The centre will be run by the Press Information Bureau. A dedicated workforce of around 1,000 people will run the press operation at the MPC and across the venues during the Games.

The MPC is located at Pragati Maidan and is built over an area of 6,700 square metres. It will cater to 2,000 journalists including around 800 from overseas. It can accommodate 600 journalists at one go.

The MPC will have workstations for 400 journalists and 200 photographers. As many as 600 national and international photographers will be covering the Games. There are around 1,300 photo-positions across the Games venues.

For the first time in the history of the Commonwealth Games, the MPC will have high-definition cable television sets in eight viewing rooms.
