AGRA: Ahead of the Bara Wafat, the birth anniversary of the Prophet, Agra Municipal Corporation has issued notice to all the animal farm owners to ensure that not a single pig is found around mosques as well as other public places on coming Thursday.
Issuing a public notice in a local daily on Saturday, the corporation appealed animal husbandry owners to cage all the animals especially pigs in their barns on December 24. Not a single pig should be seen in public places, religious places such as mosques or the public roads from where the religious processions will be taken out on that day to mark the birth anniversary celebrations of Prophet Mohammad.
The notice further read that, if any animal or pig is found loitering around in open, than the animal will be seized and the responsible owner of the animal will be penalized or punished with strong legal action.
Speaking to TOI, commissioner of Agra Municipal Corporation, Indra Vikram Singh said, "The step is a routine practice followed for several years to ensure that no communal tension arouses unnecessary during the celebrations of Prophet Mohammad birth anniversary."
He said, "This year we are taking extra precautions in the light of recent controversial statements made against the Prophet and have issued notice much earlier to Bara Wafat occasion. Presence of animals in public places will be completely banned on Thursday."
When contacted to Dr Ajay Sinha chief veterinary officer of Agra district as how many number of pigs are there in Agra, he said, "There are not many pigs in city and all are being taken care of in rural barns or animal farms."
Although when TOI team visited several places of city, it found scores of pigs roaming without any guard or shepherd. Area such as Sanjay place, Namner road, Madiya katra, Shahganj, Billochpura and several other places reported herd of pigs wandering for the search of food.
