PTI chief Imran Khan on Sunday said like the May 11 general elections, pre-poll rigging was also being done in the presidential election.
Talking to reporters and addressing a gathering of his party MNAs, MPAs and divisional office-bearers from the Punjab here, Imran said personally he wanted to boycott the presidential election, as the oppositions viewpoint on the issue was correct, but later he decided to participate due to the decision of his party and the partys presidential candidate.
Criticising the ECP, Imran said it should have been dissolved had there been a real government in Pakistan. He said after its shameful role in the recent general elections the ECP once again acted shamelessly in the presidential election and made it controversial.
He said like the general election, rigging tactics were once again being used against the PTI, as its opponent candidates against whom the party was in appeal were still protected in the by-polls.
He said the PTI moved the Supreme Court for recounting and an inquiry into rigging in only four constituencies which he said would give a clear picture of how massively the polls were rigged.
Imran said if the SC will not act as a neutral umpire and support one party, the PTI will take to the streets for justice. He said it was surprising that wherever the PTI candidate had filed a petition against rigging, the case was sent to a tribunal, but on another seat where the PML-N candidate lost in the general elections, fresh polling was ordered.
He directed his party leadership from the Punjab to compile complete report of rigging in the May 11 election after which the party would issue a white paper to the media.
He said if they were constantly pushed to the wall, the possibility of an alliance of opposition parties in future could not be ruled out.Terming the role of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) highly shameful in the general and presidential elections, Imran said his party was participating in the presidential poll only under protest and wanted justice from the Supreme Court over its petitions.
He ruled out his participation in the proposed All Parties Conference (APC) and said no moot could be effective unless the truth was unveiled to the nation.I just want to know why dialogue was not held to address this issue, asked Imran. He said the nation wanted to know as to what was the conspiracy behind the killing of Shias. He stressed that all details of any agreement with the US over drone or other issues should be made public.
The PTI chairman also stated that as a Pakistani citizen it was his right to know what had been the hurdles to holding the dialogue. He said two and a half months ago when he was hospitalised, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif came to see him and during the meeting, he conveyed to Nawaz that he wanted to hold a meeting with him and Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on the issue of terrorism.
Imran said he wanted everything in Pakistans interest and wanted to know in closed-door discussions as to what was the major reason behind addressing the issue of terrorism adding that the PTI might prove helpful to the stakeholders in solving the problem.
About the PML-N-MQM handshake, Imran said no one should expect from the PTI to do anything like this. You should gear up now; we will take to the streets if needed. I am ready to combat now, said Imran while asking his party stalwarts to get ready for any call.
Rejecting the PML-N local government system in the Punjab, Imran said if all powers were to be snatched from the people, it was better that the Punjab government should avoid holding such elections. He said the local government system of PML-N was nothing but the worst form of the one introduced by the British and a clear negation of democratic norms.
He also asked Sharif brothers to present their viewpoint before the public over the local government system. Imran said the LG system, which was going to be implemented in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, would guarantee participation of people in their own matters such as education, health etc.Talking to reporters, Justice Wajeeh-ud-Din called upon voters to exercise their right to vote in accordance with their conscience, irrespective of political affiliation.
