KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan accused former prime minister Nawaz Sharif of speaking “Narendar Modi’s language” against Pakistan.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Imran chided Nawaz for comments he made in an interview to a local newspaper. Imran claimed that Sharif was collaborating with the enemies of Pakistan to enslave his nation for personal gains and protect his ill-gotten wealth stashed abroad.

“Nawaz Sharif is the modern-day Mir Jafar, who collaborated with the British to enslave his nation for personal gains. Nawaz speaking Modi’s language against Pak State simply to protect his ill-gotten Rs300b stashed in his sons’ companies abroad.”

The PTI chief alleged that his rival was “willing to destroy state institutions including the army, anti-graft watchdog and the judiciary.”

“The big question is: Why, when he was in power for over four years, & his puppet is still holding power today, he did not speak out and take action?” asked Imran.

NAB summons Nawaz for ‘misusing public money’

In his interview, Nawaz had stated that “militant organisations” were active. “Call them non-state actors, should we allow them to cross the border and kill 150 people in Mumbai? Explain it to me. Why can’t we complete the trial?”

“We have isolated ourselves. Despite giving sacrifices, our narrative is not being accepted. Afghanistan’s narrative is being accepted, but ours is not. We must look into it,” Nawaz further added.

Nawaz was reproached by former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan who claimed the progress in Mumbai Attacks case was impeded due to rigidity and non-cooperation on part of India.

Nisar issued a statement on Sunday in light of the controversial remarks made by Nawaz and its rebuttal in India.

Nisar termed Indian indifference and non-cooperation as stumbling blocks in Mumbai attacks case. “I have in-depth understanding of the case since it was being investigated by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) during my tenure as interior minister. Keeping in view the circumstances in which this case was investigated, I certain India was uninterested to assist Pakistan in the investigation to conclude the trial.”

He said India wanted to use this case as a premise to shape and achieve its nefarious political motives and defame Pakistan on an international level. “The Mumbai case instead of seeking justice was used as a scapegoat to bash Pakistan,” Nisar asserted.

Nisar pointed out that since the incident took place in India, 90 per cent of its evidence would be there. ‘The Indian government remained adamant not to provide us any information pertaining to the incident despite repeated requests by FIA,” he remarked. “Indian authorities were also not cooperative towards the probe committee instituted by our anti-terrorism court.”

He revealed that not only did India bar Pakistan from sending a committee to investigate the attacks but also declined to share evidence. “Ajmal Kasab, the only living suspect of the case, was hanged with the investigation still underway,” Nisar said.

On the other hand, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Sherry Rehman on Sunday rejected Sharif’s statement pertaining to Mumbai attacks, questioning as to why a three-time elected prime minister would give remarks against Pakistan to “fuel Indian propaganda.”

NAB’s acting beyond its powers on several issues: Nawaz

“Many questions are being raised on this statement,” Rehman said addressing a news conference in Karachi. “The world has started to point fingers at Pakistan after the statement.

Rehman added that PPP intended to fight Pakistan’s case by all means.

She further said that Pakistan is fighting the war on terror on the highest scale and our people have been killed and displaced.

“Our armed forces as well as civilians have sacrificed significantly in this war,” she maintained.

‘Distorted remarks’

Meanwhile, Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif said that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s interview to a media outlet wherein he commented on Mumbai attacks had been distorted and that he would never say something like that.

“Do you think he [Nawaz] would ever say something like that,” Shehbaz asked.

“Militant organisations known as non-state elements, are still active in Pakistan,” the CM said. “It isn’t possible that we let them go across the border and kill 150 innocents.”

What do these posts mean : none of you believe that 10 Pakistani terrorists came in a boat to kill innocent civilians in Mumbai? ? ?

And these same members will repeatedly boast about how tough their young terrorists are , and how it took Indians 3 days to kill them all !

Sorry, but you people are responsible for whatever is happening to your country. Please take full credit for each and every incident, including the ghastly Peshawar attack.

Sharif only speaks truth when he is out of power. Otherwise 26/11 was inside job conspiracy for Pakistanis as they are supposed to be innocent peace nics.

No bigger chootia in Pakistan politics than Ch. Nisar. He speaks sensibly, raises valid points, criticizes Nawaz in public but does not leave Nawaz.

There is more to it, him doing press conferences, waiting on what do next/may be told what to do next. I will wait for a month or two and then give my opinion on him. State needs to go after where it will hurt Nawaz the most, the money, the family...! Maybe bring back musharraf too. So ganja screams are not as loud and can not be heard within and outside the country. As they would be without musharraf. But then again the state #Punjabi boys does not have the X factor. So unlikely something like that would happen.
