After Moon Sighting of Zilhijjah (1st Zilhijjah):

Those who are planning to sacrifice (Qurbani), do not cut Hairs and Nails anywhere from the body till he perform sacrifice, after sacrifice he may cut his hair and nails.(Mustahab).

Before Eid Day (9th Zilhijjah):

Takbir starts from Mughrib on the 9th Zilhijjah and last until the Asr on the 12th Zilhijjah:

Allaho-Akber, Allaho-Akber. La ila-ha ill-lal-lah. Allaho-Akber, Allaho-Akber. Wa-lilahill hamd. (Allah is greater, Allah is greater. There is no god but Allah. Allah is greater, Allah is greater. And all praises are for Allah).

On Eid Day (10th Zilhijjah):
On the day of Eid Al Adha, there are some Sunnah acts that we should do, here is what the Prophet used to do on the day of Eid, May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him:

1. Wake-up early in the morning.
Recite the above Takbir on the way to Salaat and until the beginning of Salaat-al-Eid.

2. Take a full bath. Clean the teeth.

3. Wear the best clothes you have.
Appear in the best clean clothes dress that you can afford to, that are reasonable and modest. Wear perfume.

4. Offer Eid Prayer in fasting:
The best is to offer Eid prayer without having breakfast. After prayers perform sacrifice (if you are doing qurbani) then have your breakfast with that meat.

5. Go to the Eid prayer location very early.
The Prophet used to offer Eid prayer in the central location, that is not to offer it in a mosque of a locality without any legitimate excuse.

6. The Prophet used to go to the Eid Prayer location by one route and return through another route.
He used to go for Eid on foot. He used to chant slowly on the way to the Eid prayer location the following words: "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Laa ilaaha illallahu Wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Wa lillahil Hamd."

7. Open Ground Eid prayer location.
The best is to offer Eid prayers in an open ground Eid location (Eidgah).

8. Meet and greet.
Wish every one the joy of Eid and show true signs of Islamic brotherhood by shaking hands and embracing and supplicating: “Taqabal Allahu Minna wa Minkum” (May Allah accept it from us and you).

9. Meat Distribution.
It is better to divide the meat into three parts in such a way that one for the Fuqaraa and Masakeen (the poor and needy), one part for the friends and relatives, and one part for his own household. If the household persons are many then he my feed all of the meat to his household.

10. Show generosity.
Remember the true spirit of Eid is reflected in our extreme generosity to the poor and the needy. So, be charitable as best as you can.

11. Seek pardon and acceptance.
Make lots of istighfar (asking Allah for forgiveness) and pray that Allah accept our fast, prayers and devotion, and may He grant the Muslim community glory and success.

The 'Eid Prayer':
The second obligation on 'Eid day is to perform the 'Eid prayer. Some rules in this respect are mentioned hereunder:

1. The Eid prayer is Wajib (obligatory) on every male Muslim.

2. The Eid prayer can be performed any time between the Ishraq and Zawal.

3. It is preferable that the 'Eid prayer is performed at an open field and not in a mosque. However, if, it is difficult for any reason to perform it in an open field, it can also be performed in a big mosque.

4. It is not advisable to hold the 'Eid prayer in every mosque, rather it is preferable that the people from several small mosques get together to either perform it in an open field or, in its absence, in a big mosque which can accommodate a large number of people.

5. No Nafl Salah can be performed before the 'Eid prayer, neither in one's home, nor at the place of' Eid prayer. Similarly, Nafl prayer cannot be performed after the Eid prayer at the same place. However, it can be performed after one comes back to his home.

6. The Eid prayer has neither Adhan nor Iqamah.
