IGP vows to take extortionists to task at all costs
Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani on Tuesday said that stringent steps were being taken to tighten noose around extortionists and eliminate them at all costs.
“Extortion is a big challenge for the police, but those making life miserable for the innocent people through threatening calls and sending letters would not be spared and would be brought to book at all costs,” the IGP told an award distribution ceremony here.
The function was arranged in recognition of services of the police personnel who had successfully worked out the extortion case and arrested the accused.
It may be recalled that the Mansehra police arrested the extortionists identified as Shahzad and Qari Usman Shah, a prayer leader of village Sergal, Abbottabad district, after they made threatening calls to a prominent political figure of Mansehra.
Both were associated with a banned organisation and police recovered the SIM used in the threatening call, 30 bore pistol and 2 hand-grenades. The IGP commended the scientific investigation of the awardees and hoped that they would keep continue their efforts and would make best use of their knack and skill to give tough time to the extortionists in future too.
He gave away cash prizes and commendation certificates to Assistant Sub-inspector Amir, Assistant Sub-inspector Aurangzeb and constables Junaid and Khurram of Mansehra City Police Station while DSP Headquarter Mansehra Zulfiqar Jadoon was given commendation certificate.
