Pooja Shakun Pandey - judge of the self-styled Hindu court in Meerut.
Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) has set up the first self-styled Hindu court of the country in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut.
However, it is not the establishment of the self-proclaimed court that has hit the headlines but the comments made by the judge appointed at the court.
"If Godse had not killed Gandhi, I would have done it," said Pooja Shakun Pandey the judge at the Hindu court.
Pandey said that she took pride in the fact that she and the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) worship Nathuram Godse, who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi in New Delhi on January 30, 1948.
Yes, I am proud that we worship Nathuram Godse. He was not the killer of Gandhi. He was punished even before the Indian Constitution was implemented. You should all go read history - Pooja Shakun Pandey said in an exclusive interview with AajTak.in.
Pandey is a social worker and a professor of mathematics. Pandey had hit the headlines when she urged Muslim women who were victimised by triple talaq and nikah halala to become Hindus.
"I say with pride that if Godse did not kill Gandhi, then I would have killed him. Even today if there is a Gandhi who believes in dividing the country, then there will be a Godse too," Pandey said.
MORE COURTS TO BE SET UP
The ABHM, which holds the distinction of establishing the first Hindu court, said that more such courts will be set up in the country on the lines of Sharia courts.
Ashok Sharma, vice-president of ABHM, said that the Hindu courts will deal with cases of land disputes, property and marriage issues. Sharma added that the rules that will govern the functioning of the court will be made public on October 2.
Meanwhile, the Allahabad High Court has issued a notice to the UP government over the Hindu court and has sought more information on it. The high court has also issued notices to the DM Meerut. The hearing of the case will be held on September 11.
It is good now that the matter will be taken to the court. If there is a Sharia court for Muslims, then there is no harm in having Hindu courts. Many cases are pending in other courts. Our court will help clearing in some cases saving time of other courts
- Chanra Prakash Kaushik, president of ABHM
Earlier this week, the ABHM hit the headlines after its leader Swami Chakrapani Maharaj said that people who eat beef must not receive any kind of aid in flood-hit Kerala.
