Headlines Today Bureau | Bangalore, April 11, 2011 | Updated 18:28 IST
The entire country may have closed ranks behind anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare for an effective Lokpal Bill to check corruption, but JD-S leader and former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy believes there is no politics without corruption.
"If Mahatma Gandhi was alive today, he too would have been corrupt or would have quit politics. If anybody speaks about non-corrupt system, it will not be truth," he said.
Kumaraswamy told the media in Hubli that Gandhians might not succeed if they entered politics.
The JD-S leader said that in the present political scenario, no one can organise a political party or win elections without being involved in corruption.
Kumaraswamy went on to question the Lokpal bill, asking how only one particular law or amendment could change the entire system. He said it was time everybody accepted the reality.
He was unhappy over the people's lukewarm response to his fight against Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and several other cabinet ministers for their alleged involvement in corruption even when he exposed corruption with proper documents.
RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal also supported Kumaraswamy's statement on corruption and Mahatma Gandhi. Kejriwal said that rampant corruption would have ensured Mahatma Gandhi boycotting the electoral process.

Typical Attempt from a totally opportunistic politician using cynicism to justify wrong deeds.
