IAF ropes in NIFT, IIT for upgrade in uniform quality - Indian Express

At the two-day special conference that began at the Air Force Maintenance Command Headquarters here on Monday discussions were held on the IAF uniform. The idea was not to change the pattern, design or colour of the uniform, but to improve the quality of clothing with possibly a different blend of yarns, improve upon the supply chain mechanism, and bring down the cost.

Among the agencies being roped in are National Institute of Fashion Technology and Indian Institute of Technology.

The Logistics Management Branch (LMB) of HQMC is responsible for all issues pertaining to uniforms, except the ‘flying overall’ worn by airmen, which is dealt with by Air HQ, Delhi.

The conference, inaugurated by AOC-in-C, Maintenance Command Air Marshal Jagdish Chandra, is being held under the LMB aegis.

The IAF has, for the coming years, identified ‘clothing management’ as a key result area, a press note said.

Sources said, “New technology can bring in many advantages. The idea is to weave in the new technology into the way we clothe. After the brainstorming, new ideas will be hammered out and sent to Air HQ for final approval.”

The release said, “The focus is to improve the quality of the uniforms in terms of fabric, suitability to weather conditions etc, timely availability and mass production. Assistance of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) on design of various uniforms and quality of fabric has already been sought.”

Incidentally, the IAF personnel wear 15 different kinds of uniforms on different occasions and in different weathers.

Participating in the conference are representatives of various ordnance factories like the ones in Kanpur, Shahjahanpur and Avadi that currently manufacture the uniforms. Also participating are representatives of the Army and Navy.

Addressing the inaugural session, Air Marshal Jagdish Chandra said, “The IAF personnel operate in varied conditions of weather and terrain. Their uniforms are not only a matter of great pride but also protect our men from extremities of weather and enhance their operational efficiency. Our efforts should be to improve on the quality, quantity and biometrics of production of various uniforms that we wear. New technology on fabric production and tailoring is available and is improving consistently.”

Most of those "overrated idiots" have created good image of our country worldwide. :smokin:

Now if only the army gets the same idea and gets better camo and clothing for our regular soldiers.
