IAF going Navy way for in house development of aircrafts?

IAF chief NAK Browne recently indicated that Indian air force might build in house facilities for development of the Medium sized fighter aircraft in next 20 years, IAF is hoping to break dominance of state owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd in countries aircraft manufacturing sector.

Base Repair Depot (BRD) of IAF have been growing in confidence in maintenance of the various aircrafts in current fleet of IAF and has been carrying out work which was earlier tasked to HAL in past. IAF already has taken up its first project; IAF is planning to build a trainer aircraft in Base Repair Depot (BRD) with help of other Base Repair Depot (BRD) operated by IAF.

Idrw.org spoke to retired IAF officials on this new development and was told that IAF already has trained talent pool , which was instrumental in fixing issues related to Jaguar aircraft which HAL was not able to fix in past and have also worked on Bae Hawks recently .

Defence analytics believes IAF seems to be now confident on its own ability to work independently on aircrafts’ projects, HAL inability in past to work on schedule and failure in improving its own quality of workmanship forced IAF to develop their own talent pool to meet it needs.

According to sources close to idrw.org, IAF is willing to work with private players in building up its own capability and it also will be interesting to see if IAF will take Lca Tejas Project under it wings and help in fix issues with the project which has delayed the whole program for last few years now.

Good news.... :yahoo: India seriously needs a good alternative to HAL for defence developments

Breaking News : CEO of HAL got heart attack due to continuous laughing (after hearing this news) :omghaha:

No; its more likely that the CEO of HAL will die of "chronic constipation". Due to years of poor management of production practices.

On a serious note though: the IAF seriously needs to set up a Design Bureau to get involved in Design and Development of Aircraft. That is far more rational and productive than trying to make Aircraft. In this regard, both the IAF and IA are very backward as compared to the IN; they have years of catching up to do.

Both IA & IAF should make dedicated team who monitor projects which use their respective fund & give their feedback on that.

And HAL's managers should all be laid off and sent to Management Schools to learn the ABC of Production Mgmt.

We need to re organise all PSUs & DPSUs & slowly disinvest govt. shares & make them public corporation. Problem solved.

Already a thread was running on the same issue...by the way keep discussing..

THis will be the talk of the town till the tenure of Nak Browne.
Once he retires, we are back to square one and his exhorting of IAF to design aircrafts will be forgotten.

9 days of novelty !
