The Indian Air Force (IAF) this morning formally inducted the BrahMos-1 Block-3 ground-launched supersonic ‘top-attack’ cruise missile into service, thus becoming the third Indian armed service to procure the BrahMos-1 after the Indian Navy (BrahMos-1 Block-1) in 2005 and the Indian Army (BrahMos-1 Block-2) in 2007. The Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee and Chief of Air Staff of the IAF, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, symbolically accepted the first ‘BRAHMOS Technical Position’ (the IAF-specific mobile autonomous launcher) at the New Delhi-based HQ of BrahMos Aerospace.

Hmmm interesting, didn't think the IAF was interested in the ground-launched version of the Brahmos.

. .
Why would the IAF require surface to surface missile? :undecided::mad:

Why would IAF require a surface to surface missile

This must be for forward airstrips along the borders. Surely for special missions to take down enemy instalation. Definitely we are working on new tactics

I really wonder range is just 290 km .... surprise in waiting for our foes

. . . .
In case of war, why send an air craft when you can send Brahmos for runway denial, SEAD mission etc.

IAF have been holding a decent stock of Prathvi and they have been operating it for a long time..... Probably they want to replace it or add more lethal weapons to their inventory.....
