An Mi-17 helicopter of the Indian Air Force on Wednesday made an emergency landing here due to "technical" reasons, IAF sources said.

Sources from the IAF said the crew of the helicopter is safe and there were no injuries on ground either.

The sources added it was a "precautionary landing due to technical reasons"

All those pictures indicate a serious lack of security SOPs. There shouldn't be a single civilian within 50-100 metre radius, and yet here they are crowding around it like it is the "shaadi ka mandap" of Tendulkar.

Mumbai: IAF chopper makes emergency landing in Bandra Kurla complex | india | Hindustan Times

An Indian Air force (IAF) helicopter MI 17 landed at the MMRDA grounds in Bandra Kurla complex of Mumbai on Wednesday after it developed a technical snag.

Defence spokesperson commander Rahul Sinha said that the aircraft and all four passengers on board were safe. A technical support team has been dispatched to the site to assess the aircraft, he added.

The incident happened around 2.25pm when the chopper was on a routine sortie. Apart from the pilot and the co-pilot, there were two passengers in the helicopter.

Officials said after the aircraft developed problem, the pilot of the aircraft carried out a precautionary landing at BKC. Further assessment was underway to decide how it would be moved from the scene and the expert team was trying to see if minor repairs can be carried to fly the aircraft from BKC.

A lot of onlookers - locals and those working in nearby offices gathered on the scene and the IAF, Army and Mumbai police have cordon off area to ensure nothing from site is damaged.

The helo is powered down and static there's nothing wrong with letting a few civilians get up close with it- it is hardly the stealthy blackhawk used in the OBL mission. Once they have had their look they will be cleared for the IAF's ground crew to get to work on the stricken bird.

Op-sec doesn't apply on 20+ year old junk.

what are that bag type thing in each tyres, is that chopper damaged?
Emergency Flotation devices. IAF Mi-17s deployed in coastal bases have such features for when they operate over the water.
