‘I will do it’: Elon Musk says he will give $6 billion to solve world hunger if UN shows it would

If he owes tax money why haven't they grabbed his assets?
It is impossible to argue with those filled with envy of other people's wealth. In their eyes, the rich man must owe some tax money because they want his money and they think their want is the tax.

The saying is true, once a beggar always a begger:laughcry:

Mr. Kassad, you are talking as if India is the realization of human desire for a Communist society where no socio-economic and political deprivations, injustices and wrong exist. Please think before you embarrass the sensible and progressive people in India on an international forum. Do you think 350,000+ Pakistani farmers committed suicide in a span of 20 years because of socio-economic reasons like they did in India ? Should I list other such things ?

Why do you defend those who see you as less than an insect? Unless you have 100 million USD in assets they don't even pay attention to you.

the difference between a billionaire and someone with 100 million USD is the same as the difference between a doctor and a janitor.

I don't care how people see me. I also don't think people see me as less than an insect. This very strange thought never occurred in my mind. I think only those who feel insignificant in front of those people would ever think that way.

sure, throw away a few billion when you're worth hundreds of

what when it runs out ?

buy everyone on earth a big pizza or a biriyani or whatever... boom, there goes all your money, tens of billions of dollars.... and it would have done zero greater good for anyone.

you have to be smart with money, and Elon is smart... he bought 6 billion worth of good PR

From a personal interest point of view it is extreme bizarre that you would advocate for the interests of billionaires when the reciprocal will never happen and you aren't a billionaire yourself.

They don't need you to do their PR for free, they can pay for it.

Billionaires are human beings, too. You should keep that in mind. No human beings like to have their private properties being taken away. You are included. Defending the right of the private properties is the same for billionaires and non-billionaires. The very thought that it is OK to take from billionaires will eventually justify the thought of taking from everyone. If you don't believe me, check the US history on the income tax rate.

Nice try. Billionaires aren't salaried though. Check the history of the capital gains tax instead. Or the effective corporate tax rate.

People make money in anyway they like as long as it isn't illegal. Just because you are salaried, it doesn't make it most honorable way of making a living.

For the record, I support a flat tax, instead of the current, overly convoluted tax system US has.

If you look closely into the current system, you would see that it is filled with good intentions. Lower long-term capital gain tax? Well, we are supporting investments that create jobs. Higher progressive salary tax? Well, we are reducing the pay disparity. Lower farm land property tax? Well, we need to support agriculture, which is the backbone of our society. Lower long-term dividend tax? Well, we are helping senior citizens who depend on it. Once you are using a tax system for whatever social purpose, you are going to create a system that is so complex and only the wealthy have enough resource to evade while everyone is entitled to evade legally.

Interestingly, Canada tax system educates people that legally avoiding tax is not only your right, but also your duty. It is your duty not to give the government any money that it isn't legally entitled to.

I never said salary is the most honorable form of income. But it is the form of income that the vast majority of people have, but not the form of income billionaires have. Thus high income tax is actually regressive and punishing towards the majority of people.

There's always an excuse for something in terms of intent. Nobody really knows intent in the end, only results. We see the results already.

True, people like Putin, Xi, and Trump put on their smiling faces for their masses whom they actually see as mindless insects not worthy of their time.

Being a majority doesn't give them the right to punish the minority. That is why democracy would never work without the rule of law and the key feature of the rule of law is to protect the minority since democracy already protects the majority. But the rule of law would never work if people are divided to think there is us and there is them and there should be different rules for each division. This type of thinking plagues most societies in the world, including China.

Who said different rules? I merely pointed out a fact: most people obtain income from salary subject to income tax, billionaires obtain it by capital gains or sales of financial instruments subject to short (long) term capital gains tax instead.

So? Should they be treated differently? Should billionaires pay tax on unrealized capital gain? Should they pay more tax on the capital gain simply due to inflation? If you say a dollar is a dollar, no matter how this dollar is acquired. I am with you and think a dollar should always be taxed in the same way. And a billionaire is no different from a salaried man. The merely pointed out fact makes no difference.
