I am getting bored in jail, says Kasab

July 08, 2009 18:38 IST

Mohammed Ajmal Kasab , the lone terrorist arrested during the terror siege in Mumbai in November last year, on Wednesday requested the special court hearing the 26/11 attack case to provide him books as he was 'bored' in jail.

"I am bored and need books to read," Kasab told Judge M L Tahaliyani.

Kasab, currently lodged in the highly-guarded Arthur Road Jail, said either the court should provide him books or allow him to buy them from his money seized by the police at the time of his arrest last year.

Earlier, Kasab told the judge that he wanted to speak to his lawyer Abbas Kazmi, which was allowed by the court.

Later, when the judge inquired about the matter, Kazmi said, "Kasab needs books to read. He is feeling bored in his cell".

Kasab then stood up and told the judge in Hindi, "Sir, please give me books or allow me to buy them from my money".

The court told him that this would not be possible because his money (seized by the police) has now become Mudemal (property of the court) as the trial was in progress.

The police had seized Rs 4,580 from Kasab at the time of his arrest. Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam asked Kasab, "Now, what is the use of reading books"?

Advocate Kazmi later told the court that he would provide books in Urdu to Kasab. The court had earlier rejected Kasab's plea to read Urdu newspapers in jail. Kazmi had then provided four story books in Urdu to Kasab through the jail superintendent.

"He has finished reading them and wants to read more such books," Kazmi told the court.

In another development, the court allowed co-accused Faheem Ansari to meet his wife for two to three minutes every day during lunch time and for ten minutes every Thursday. Earlier, the court had rejected Faheem's plea for mulakat (meeting) with his wife during lunch time.

Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam opposed Faheem' plea for meeting his wife every day, saying the jail authorities may not allow that. The court then said that the accused was in its custody and the jail authorities had no reason to object to such a practice.

oh man, look Ajmal Kasab feeling bored. The judge should give his verdict and send Kasab near to his other nine friends as soon as possible .

There is no need to kill the guy, that's simply too easy. We need to put him in a small 5x5 hole in the ground and let him spend the rest of his days there making sure he does nothing to harm himself. No books, no human contact, no sunlight.

He'll lose his mind in the first year or two, and then he has the rest of his life to think about why he's living in a dark hole all by himself.

We are Indians not Chinese!!!!
See I think it will be at least another 5 years before Kasab is sentenced to death

He will approach high court and then supreme court and even if the supreme court up holds his death sentence it will be more than 3 years for the center to execute his death order.
Afzal Guru is still alive ...isn't he?
The Congress Govt plans to kill the terrorists by natural causes.

The problem is that our system is in the hands of civilized people. He will not be ill treated till he walks up to the gallows and that noose is around his neck:agree:, and becomes a warning for the rest of the brainwashed devils who wants the blood of innocent people.

@ the guy who was making Ajmal go sane by putting him in a hole. Is this what you also practice in Kashmir? The dude should be hanged and justice must prevail, but do you want to equate yourself with the Russians or what?

Perhaps he should be given a guided tour of Mumbai. He missed a few places of interest the last time he was in the city.

The unbeatable Indian bureaucracy will handle it in a way everybody will be happy. They'll give him books written in Marathi.

That way everybody'll be (partly) happy, including the conspiracy theorists.. as they say Kasab knows marathi anyways...

they should hang him for his crimes .. a judgment needs passing soon ..i dont understand what kind of publicity India is trying to gain from this trial ... the guy was caught red handed ..!!
