Khursheed Wani | Srinagar
A faction of separatist Hurriyat Conference in Kashmir is starting deliberations with civil society members and intellectuals before embarking on a visit to Pakistan to restart dialogue process over Kashmir issue. The renewed bilateral ties between India and Pakistan have encouraged the secessionists to involve in the dialogue process snapped by New Delhi in 2006 due to fragile political atmosphere in Pakistan.
A delegation of Hurriyats pro-dialogue faction led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is going to Pakistan on a weeklong tour starting December 17.Before embarking on visit to Pakistan, we have decided to interact with civil society members, economists, educationists and jurists to deliberate on various aspects of Kashmir issue, Mirwaiz said at Srinagars central mosque where he delivers weekly sermon before Fridays congregational prayers.
The deliberations would begin on November 20 at the Hurriyats Rajbagh headquarters. The Hurriyat has not named any group or individual. This is the first time when the separatist amalgam is seeking involvement of indigenous intellectuals before entering into a dialogue process. Earlier, its executive council, the highest decision making body took the decision of entering into dialogue process and formulated agenda.
The Hurriyat formally entered into dialogue process with Government of India in 2003 when the then Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani invited them for talks. The UPA Government also continued involvement with Hurriyat and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held several rounds of talks with the amalgam leaders. After Hurriyat delegations first visit to Pakistan in 2005, the dialogue process became triangular in nature, a political expert said.
