Skin color is not a problem. We have some white minority, for example, the Chinese Russians. We also have some ethnic minority with darker skin color than Indians, for example, Wa people.

Have you ventured out of Indonesia to the north?
There are darker Chinese,but the "brown" he mentioned here,isn't tan,but the brown hue of Africans ,middle eastern,south asians and some equatorial south east asians with ancient Javanese admix are different in shade and hue than the sun induced tan,they are more like red + yellow. Also the eastern mainland mongoloid dominant gene has unique skin,they can glow or change color based on lighting ,in proper light one may looks much fair compared to the same person sitting in a dark room.
Indian /middle east skin tone is actually close to african may but lighter in many case,it's coffee & close to light shade of black,the so called brown Chinese are more like golden yellow + red,it's copper.The woman you mentioned isn't average Indian skin tone at all,which is more like shades of dark coffee. Their skin types look the same due to genetic difference between skin type and fat content .
