When Salman Khan was convicted and sentenced to five years of prison in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case, it sent shockwaves not just across the country but also the neighbouring country. Soon, reactions began pouring in from Pakistan as well.
Pakistan foreign minister Khwaja Asif claimed that Salman was targetted because he was a Muslim, forgetting that Saif Ali Khan and Tabu, who were acquitted in the same case, belonged to the same religion.
"Salman has been sentenced because he's a minority. Maybe if he belonged to the religion of the ruling party of India he would not have been given such a harsh sentence and the court might have been lenient with him," Asif is quoted as telling Geo News.
Former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar rallied behind his "friend" Salman and said that he felt the punishment was too harsh.

Actress Mawra Hocane called Salman a "great human" and said that the verdict was "completely wrong". She went on to add that "such human beings are our saving grace".

Singer Shehzad Roy said that he felt really bad after hearing the verdict and hoped that Salman would be granted bail at the earliest.
