In 1962 all Pakistani and Indian military and civil officers knew each other. Some had been close friends, even relatives. Even political leaders knew each other. Ayub had offered a Defense Pact to Nehru who had summarily rejected this. That haughty behavior of Nehru was perhaps the last opportunity to arrest the series of slaughters in SA that is still going on.

USA and the entire Western culture only respect winner and powers. in other words, USA only respect mans! to be a man, you need to show your ability and show your mussel. In 1950s Korean war, those China were fighting against 18 UN countries and grab 1/2 of the Koran(most of N.Koran) from US's hands. Finally, USA and China buddy each other and sit down "talk", you know talk and shake-hands.

In 1961, his outspoken frankness got him into trouble with Defence Minister V K Krishna Menon and his protege of the time Lt Gen B M Kaul. He refused to toe Menon’s line and was sidelined.

Manekshaw was vindicated soon after when the Indian army suffered a humiliating defeat in North East Frontier Agency (NEFA), now Arunachal Pradesh, the next year, at the hands of the Chinese that led to Menon’s resignation. Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru rushed Manekshaw to NEFA to command the retreating Indian forces. This had an electrifying effect on the demoralised officers.

In no time, Manekshaw convinced the troops that the Chinese soldier was not "10 feet tall". His first order of the day said, "There will be no withdrawal without written orders and these orders shall never be issued." The soldiers showed faith in their new commander and successfully checked further ingress by the Chinese.

I did not know resignation is a major war fighting technique..

Learn some history and don't quote Zaid Hamid on 1000 years democracy, we all were slaves of external forces, who settled here many were converted or married to those invaders. So you didn't do anything. Even Persian, and Arabian don't claim such things.

Get over of false pride, coz were also the same like us, for 1000years, difference was we were hindus and many were converted muslims. The genealogy graph is required to find out whether you are pure mughals or converted hindus.

If India had not hosted our largest separatist group in 1959, and then carried out the Forward Policy against us in 1962... we most likely would not have become enemies.

We settled all our other land-border disputes back then when we were weak. India should have accepted our offer to recognize AP in exchange for Indian recognition of Aksai Chin.

But Nehru wanted BOTH of the territories, and refused to compromise.

And instead of maintaining the status quo, he went ahead with the Forward Policy.

Simple matters are given so much hype that our common people perceives each other as enemy. 1962 is not the major factor of this animosity, its the support of China to Pakistan. These to bordering nation always keep India on its toes, and as soon as be try to relax incident like Kargil happens.
