ISLAMABAD: (APP) A total of around 862 million doses of Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) were administered to all children under five years of age across Pakistan during 2013 to 2015.
The OPV drops administered through the National Supplementary Immunization Days (NIDs) and Sub-National Immunization Days (SNIDs) aimed at complete eradication of virus, through door to door strategy covering all villages.
Nationwide campaign involves around 85041 mobile and 5125 transit teams, a total of 6697 fixed sites support vaccine and logistics for the activity, official sources told APP.
To access each village during every campaign, detailed micro plans are worked out at Union Council level, they said adding, within the micro plan, teams comprising of two members each are also guided about their daily work and route to be taken.
Adequate arrangements are therefore, in place to cover all villages targeted during a particular campaign, they apprised.
The polio teams comprising of the officials from the health, education and security and other Government departments as well as volunteers record all children that could not be vaccinated during first visit for being not-available or refusal as the case may be.
The following strategy is pursued to ensure vaccination of these missed children. The teams revisit the missed households on the same day of the three-day campaign to cover the missed children and update record accordingly.
The 4th (and if required 5th) day of the campaign is utilized to cover the remaining missed children.
The children that remain still-missed, are covered up by health officials and World Health Organization and United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) staff during the 14 days extended catch-up period, they said.
The community influencers and religious leaders are also engaged to vaccinate the recorded refusals as required during the process.
They informed that the above operation is completed by using around 223,000 personnel in every nationwide campaign including 19,211 Area lncharge, 9,792 Union Council Medical Officers, 85,041 Mobile, 9,995 Fixed and 5,125 Transit Teams.

. .
main issue was creating awareness, imposing severe penalties on families who refused treatment for affected family members, and providing excellent security to doctors administering vaccine....all in all a successful ongoing campaign which will guarantee polio is wiped out from the existence.

we also need to limit the number of refugees coming in as they often are the ones bringing polio into Pakistan

.
Polio virus can be easily eradicated from KPK if the local government start investing funds in the right direction.

it's very easy and the vaccine is cheap...problem is ignorant people and conspiracy theories that have been nurtured - i have personally spoken to people who believe the anti polio doctors are CIA agents who want to make Pashtuns as unable to reproduce....whereas 100% of the time the field medics are Pakistanis who are just doing the right thing (some of them volunteers, they arent getting paid a dime to do the work)

how about granting 300 million PKR to haqqani network? is it the right thing to do?
I am appalled by your level of intellect that you have exhibited. Seriously, even at this age !

Its much better if you remain silent and keeping your childish thoughts to yourself. Since, you dont even have a bit of an idea of what you're blabbering about. Its just that you have an urge to write something, even if its bulshit that youre writing

Dear Sir,
Just a small food for thought. There were lot many Madrassas who were refusing to get registered and show their source of funding. So PTI led KPK govt convinced those to get registered and include reforms like computer learning, english teaching etc. For that they had to be given funds. We have no issue with foreign NGOs dubious funding but ofcourse these Madaris are like pinch of salt in our eyes.

I think Pakistan must achieve it (polio free status) as a tribute to the great Edhi. He will be happy and proud from where he watches you.

Maybe the day UN WHO declares Pakistan as polio-free can be named as Edhi day in Pakistan?

I don't think his death day should be the one labelled in his honour (personally, its up to Pakistan to choose of course). Rather maybe his birth day or something else (like what I was suggesting with the polio free status).

There are controversies with Mother Teresa.

I cannot doubt her personal will, heart and compassion....but she was blinded/obscured by her sheer interpretation of faith in some instances.

Like how painkillers and modern medicine was refused because suffering was part of the "salvation" etc.

You may want to watch this for some analysis about the other less known side of Mother Teresa and make up your own mind:

Edhi to me rose above this. He didn't bring religion into it at all...he simply did his work for the sake of humanity. That to me is why I respect him a lot more than Mother Teresa (who I also admire in various ways but admit had some deep faults....similar to my thoughts on Gandhi and Mandela).

Huma Shazif had just vaccinated five children against polio in Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar when the gunmen attacked. They sped off on a motorbike as her colleague lay dying on the ground after being shot in the abdomen, while she was hit three times in the leg.

John Paul II was made the pope by CIA machination to be used to bring Poland out of communism / Soviet control. One of his famous declarations was: "In the first millennium Europe. In the second Africa. And in this third millennium Asia'". Soon thereafter she was converted into an icon by the award of the Nobel so that the Christian conversion activity would be strengthened.
