Actually, he is a red princeling...his generation had a very luxurious life standard compared to other Chinese during that time. This hasn't changed though.
Indeed he was a "princeling" official term being 红二代 "second generation red" or 太子党 "princeling party" with many political connections to other princelings but his dad was purged when he was in his teenage years. Many of his princeling friends disdained politics and the government due to experiencing violent purges as well. This may cause Xi Jinping to have a vengeance.
I wouldn't say luxurious but yes, better than most Chinese at the time who were starving even ones with good positions.
Well, he was sent to some village in Shaanxi during the "Down to the countryside movement" by Mao.
Whether people agree with Xi Jinping or not he is bringing and going to bring big changes to China. He is cleansing the entire CCP of his political enemies and corrupt officials since he thinks they will hinder the "rejuvenation". He has a strong vision for the country and thinks corruption and his political enemies are getting in the way. The funny thing is that Xi Jinping was chosen by the different factions because they thought he was not too opinionated and would become a puppet to them since he had a record of being a guy who just went with the flow.
Most people that don't follow Chinese politics closely don't know some of the spy/action movie level stuff that had been going on since 2011. There has been a silent war within the Chinese government, Xi faction vs other factions.
Xi's crackdown on corruption caused 1.4 million party members to face disciplinary action. All the other factions who have dirt on them wants Xi and his guys dead, don't be fooled when you look at the 18th & 19th congress with them sitting next to each other and shaking hands.
These guys plan murders of anti-corruption officers, attempted multiple assassinations on chief of anti-corruption and many others with car bombings, poisoning, fake accidents, etc. Zhou Yong Kang's faction attempted a failed coup in Beijing.
Common people dislike corrupt officials who don't have a vision for the country. Its corruption to the level that some factions have their own break away armies and economies doing unspeakable things. The anti-corruption campaign makes Xi popular since it fulfils an emotional need for people, gives people hope, and a sense of justice.
