What's new

How China's tier 5 or tier 6 cities look like?

I think this city in Southwest China has too much space for parks....
Roads are a little bit narrow....
I can imagine how congested roads there are during peak hours....

Same problem.....
Just one more lane will be better......
They won't get killed to have a little bit less trees.....
Traffic jams in Zhaoqing City must be really bad....
Heard they are gonna build BYD skyrail

OMG, city on Gobi Desert in Northwest China!

It's good to see smaller cities in Central China has quite good landscape design!

All these parks are such paradise for aunties at night......
Square dance.....

Big parks are fine considering the population density.
Those are small cities, but still the downtown's population could easily reach 1-2 million.
Traffic jams in those lower tier cities are terrible....
That's why trams, skyrails, light rails and even subways are being built in tens of small cities ("small" is refereed in regard of China's "big")/

This is a good design to integrate railways to the city landscape....
But I prefer railway tunnels at the very downtown....

I like this one....
Each direction is completely separate.
If they want to build trams or BYD Monorail, very easy to upgrade...

Big parks are fine considering the population density.
Just found a good example....
This urban road in the downtown of some tier5 city.......
You see how narrow the road is, but so much space for pedestrians and trees.....
Those VR views shot in the daytime are very deceptive....
Believe me, any road in small city with 3+3 lanes or worse is horrible during peak hours....

This notorious crossroad is a hellish place during the peak hours
Well, thankful for the Brilliant designers leaving much space for pedestrians.....
Zhushan County's central township, Central China
(I have been on that bridge before)

Trees are good....but not when you have very little space in the high-density downtown....
I will shut up if they can build sufficient lanes and parks at the same time...

wondering what PR stands for , "Public Relations" ?
People's Republic :)

It depends what city you are comparing them to. They are not any more "empty" than many cities in the US. These are tier-5 cities (county level?), and many of them I have never heard of.
Thing is - the kind of buildings that exist shows that the population there should be significant.
The roads on the other hand are empty.

Tier 5 towns in the US don't have skyscrapers - only some small buildings, a couple of markets, some small county stadiums, a church and that's about it.

It appears most of the towns showed herein don't have the houses in full occupancy. Probably not even a quarter occupancy. But they look very nice, no doubt about it. You can organize tours to model townships - how they can be built, and so on.

I guess what you really want to say is those cities are just "ghost towns". @AndrewJin @GS Zhou you guys are more familiar with Chinese cities. What's you take?

Just for illustration, here is a photo of downtown Xiamen a city of 3 million, where BRICS summit has just been held, does it look like a "ghost town" to you?
