How can you change a nation's mentality/mindset?

Yeh for the scrapheap. The so called "fittest" become bums on the streets.

There is the natural way. Which can take centuries and even then that might not bring you where you want to be. Or you can have benevolent dicatorship that pressure pumps people into certain mould. Of course what mould is used is criticial. As you state Eastern Europeans are educated but their education lacks certain refined aspects and I see that in UK. But education is the key here. The right type of education done across the board over few generations so that it sinks into the psche of the people.

Nominally, the Saudis are featuring a better education level than Turks. Then again, even the worst Anatolian hillbillies know that the Saudi/Iranian conception of the world is flat out wrong. How come?

Look at Chinese international students leaving Western universities with Western education. They usually don't change their political attitude towards the communist establishment/system in China when they get back home, why?

I'm starting to believe that education is overrated.

Your defining education in it's very narrow definition. There is the education that you learn at school liking counting, addition, division, spelling, writing etc. Then ther is the wider education. How to think out problems. How to reason. How to find out things for yourself. How to develop critical thinking. Then there is the overall belief or social system. How you see it and how you fit in that. So it is a very complex with layers on layers making a composite matrix. You can't treat education as just schooling alone.

Mixing Instruction with education is the real problem in third world and developing (to a lesser extent) countries, one can see that the real education in developed countries starts after University, college or technical school, it is what is called real life education.. but this alone does not change the mentality of a nation, instruction and pedagogy in early school, way of life and thought process of the immediate family and surroundings play a big part in the mentality set of individuals, if all of these requirements spread to the whole society we can witness a change in mentality.. unfortunately this goes both ways, if these requirements are absent or negative.. we see a negative mentality in the society, and if positive we get a better functioning and positive minded society..

* by positive thinking ad attitude, I mean how the person is more brainy than emotional.. negative emotions can destroy the brain and the body, while positive emotions will strengthen the person on all levels.. this goes equally for societies as a whole, since they are based on the individual..

In the context of pakistan the only mindset i adore and is a role model for me is the mindset of our founding father.
I believe we can change the current zia ul haq extremist mindset of our population by teaching them what MA jinnah really wanted and how this country was hijacked by zia and his cronies.We can do this using the internet ,social media,television channels.Or by taking a bold step of changing the curriculum we are teaching in schools.
Not to forget the harmful effects of bringing religion into the constitution and exposing the real faces of mullah brigade we need to tell our masses. People really need to hate them by heart because they deserved to be hated and are only harmful for this nation.

I think internet nd socialization plays an important role in changing one's mind .
Its only through interacting with dofferent people of earth that you got to know your fault in your thoughts and you proceed to change your thinking as per the time .

I was pretty lame but its only through internet nd socialising that made me realise where im wrong .

There is no way changing the collective mindset of the people or a nation.
It is an evolutionary process and peaks when the majority consensus is projected by the person who is leading it.

Education only refines the mindset not change the mindset itself.
