I think his intentions for Pakistan were noble, but he was duped.

I agree with you here. Gen Zia was the ONLY leader of the subcontinent (IND/PAK/BD) who had a genuine strategic vision. He wasnt fighting Afghanistan for the sake of USA, he was doing that for the sake of Greater Pakistan. Once Afghanistan was liberated, that would mark the entry of Pak into the 5 CA Stans. Pak would have been a behemoth had his vision been realised. Unfortunately he was ahead of his times and there were too many moles in the Pak Army.
