Hindu teacher sentenced to life imprisonment for ‘blasphemy’ in Ghotki

Additional Sessions Judge Mumtaz Ali Solangi delivered the verdict on February 8, 2022. It has taken the court two years to pass the final order. Nautan Lal has been in jail since 2019 as an undertrial prisoner.

A written copy of the court’s verdict, available with SAMAA Digital, states that he was convicted under Section 265-H of the Code of Criminal Procedure. This section says: if the accused admits that he has been previously convicted as alleged in the charge, the court may pass a sentence upon him according to law, and if the accused does not admit that he has been previously convicted as alleged in the charge, the court may take evidence in respect of the alleged previous conviction, and shall record a finding thereon, and then pass sentence upon him according to law.

A case against Nautan Lal was also registered under Section 295-C (use of derogatory remarks, etc., in respect of the Holy Prophet (PBUH)) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

He has been sent back to Central Prison in Sukkur. In the past two years, his requests for bail have been rejected twice.

On September 14, 2019, a video was shared on social media in which a teenager, a first-year Intermediate student, claimed that the owner of Ghotki’s Sindh Public Higher Secondary School had blasphemed himself. According to teachers, however, Nautan Lal was just visiting that day. He doesn’t actually teach at his school. He is a physics teacher at Government Degree College Ghotki.

Soon after, the head of a madrassa, Mufti Adul Karim Sayeedi of Jamaat Ahle Sunnat, registered a blasphemy case against the school owner. Violence broke out in the district the night the case was registered.

As the news spread, masked men attacked the Sacho Satram Dham Temple in Ghotki. They ransacked the temple, damaged its idols and battered its blue and green walls.
Blasphemy law in Pakistan

Under the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) anyone who uses derogatory remarks in respect of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is punishable by death.

Section 295-C of the PPC reads, “Use of derogatory remarks, etc., in respect of the Holy Prophet: Whoever by words, either spoken or written, or by visible representation or by any imputation, innuendo, or insinuation, directly or indirectly, defiles the sacred name of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) shall be punished with death, or imprisonment for life, and shall also be liable to fine.”

No one has ever been executed under the blasphemy law in Pakistan as higher courts have either overturned or commuted sentences by the lower courts.

In 2019, in a landmark judgment, the Supreme Court of Pakistan acquitted Aasia Noreen, a Christian woman accused of blasphemy. In its verdict, the court said, “As noted…sometimes, to fulfill nefarious designs the law is misused by individuals leveling false allegations of blasphemy. Stately, since 1990, 62 people have been murdered as a result of blasphemy allegations, even before their trial could be conducted in accordance with law.”

I don't think we should take extreme decisions against our minorities. What image we are giving to world? Throwing in prison for 3 month is enough , and give him chance for Peace .

Yep. India exports Buffalo meat. Cow slaughter is banned throughout India.

While those lynching were described as beef and none of the reports were taken since mobs have served the Hindutva justice then & there. No questions asked later. Point being made; just look the society as of now. A court bans Hijab. Really? Who they are trying to appease? In-fact a genocide is into making with every thing available at the disposal of state... be it RSS, Hindutva Ideology, the Nazi salutations & BJP ruling the country.

The court has considered the case

People can be offered a chance in court and that is the right thing to do
If crime was committed then it has to served

If the sentence is felt harsh they can go to a doctor and generate a fake blood report and move to UK to live in Mayfield , this is the ideal means to move to UK and also get a alternative ruling

  • For me 1 year behind bar is sufficient & and social sensitivity courses
A repeat offense
> 3 Years

A repeat offense

not everyone has stuffed networks pulling whole clans into the UK. the shameless and, Urdu has a good word for it, "beghairati" of many expats and "foreign influence" screeching of local convervatives is something to behold.

(your ancestors included

Don't get personal and try to act big with such judgmental remarks. Behave. You are authorized to talk about your family and forefathers as I don't have issues. Secondly; this is the core virus of Indian Keyboard warriors that if being engaged in intellectual discussion with decency; will resort to personal attacks with a big mouth. It should be the last reminder to you.

You are not even updated with the subject being happening within your own house yet you are talking cheap about other's ancestors. Here it is what Court does and also, read International Concerns as well.

The order & ban is so much of intolerance that even US has to condemn it.

Not for beef sure, but for blasphemy as that is the topic at hand. If memory serves me right, wasn't a Sri Lankan individual recently torn to bits in Pakistan?
The killing of Sri Lankan national was indeed a heinous act by a bunch of thugs settling personal scores, however a little introspection is required to differentiate between a criminal act and one carried out by the law of the land.

Yupp, use that introspection to differentiate the difference between a criminal act and the law of the land. Your law itself is discriminatory in nature.
"‘Khuntkatti’ system is joint ownership of land by tribal lineage. Under the system, Munda tribals usually clear the forests and make the land fit for cultivation. The cultivable land is then owned by whole clan and not a particular individual."

The individual's cutting and selling the trees is a violation, but killing him for doing so is criminal and due course of law follows. Hope that clarifies, that there is no equivalence here that you are grappling for. Let me know if you need further disambiguation.

It always helps to read the full article before pressing the reply buttons and imposing big words to create an impression.....Say even if our law is what you describe as discriminatory, then also try to find out that how many times, the actual law was implemented and any sentence carried out....meanwhile in the above case, what you pass on as a criminal act of killing him and so called due course of law follows.....well it so seems the whole episode was carried out in the very presence of the so called law. !!!

RANCHI: A man was thrashed by the villagers at Besrazara Bazaar Tand under Kolebira Police Station in Simdega and later burnt alive in broad daylight in presence of police, allegedly for cutting trees illegally and selling them in the market, which is a violation of ‘Khuntkatti’ law.

Anyone who supports punishment of "Blasphemy" is part of the problem.

Imagine killing someone (Personally or by a state) in 21st century because their words were sacrilegious. Terrible !

The incompetence of LEA doesn't change the legality of the issue. Does it?

Yet another example of shrine and saint worshipping tolerance and superior ideology that Saudi/wahabi/deobandi hating sufis keeping harping on about.

hose allegedly serving jail terms since years, are not innocent at all otherwise,
Not at all, especially when their cases are from the get go pressured and corrupted. There is no Justice, period. D*ck measuring with India is not going to help Pakistan one bit. At the end of the day this archaic law is abused by people to put others unjustly in jail and a life under constant threat. There have been so many high profile cases and yet still for some reason people hold this position of the Law being good and that 'maybe they were doing bad'. Just recently another case was filed upon a woman by a man who tried to flirt with her and rejected him.
Say even if our law is what you describe as discriminatory, then also try to find out that how many times, the actual law was implemented and any sentence carried out
Really does not make it better at all, the fact that law is there is in itself a showcase of an abysmal state of affairs.

There are always religious people in secular countries who can face the payback.
Don't cry the next time we persecute you in a different location when you're 'just following your faith.'

Versus the merit of the case. In-fact, there are more of ground realities. Those allegedly serving jail terms since years, are not innocent at all otherwise, EU and others would have been shouting their lungs out. There are issues not being discussed in public to avoid public anger and so that extremist sponsored groups could take streets. Leave it.
They are shouting their lungs but who cares about few people here and there

Next this lady needs to be lyned since her son his lyned anyway
