Australia satisfied with India's security plan for games

As India gets ready to host several international sporting events, the Australian government has said it is satisfied with efforts to ensure the safety of Australian athletes in India.

Referring to his meeting with Indian officials in New Delhi last year, Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith said he was satisfied with efforts to ensure the safety of Australian athletes in India following threats by Al-Qaida-linked militants.

Addressing a press conference in London on Friday, Australian Foreign Minister said, "I was satisfied then and I am satisfied now that all of the necessary co-ordination and consultation continues to occur ...It is a very regrettable fact of the modern era that there are always security risks in major sporting events, whether they're conducted in Australia or whether they're conducted in India."

"When I was in India last year I spoke to the Indian authorities about planning for the Commonwealth Games and the security arrangements for that. I am satisfied that all the necessary coordination and consultation continues to occur. And of course, we are deeply interested in those arrangements," he added.

Smith also believed similar security measures were in place for this month's men's Hockey World Cup in Delhi.

So far as arrangements for the Commonwealth Games and for the Hockey World Cup are concerned Smith said, "We are satisfied that all of the necessary consultations and coordination is occurring."

Pakistan-based terrorist Ilyas Kashmiri has threatened athletes ahead of the Commonwealth Games along with cricketers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and hockey World Cup players.

After last Saturday's terror attack in Pune, the security advisor of Australia's Cricket Association started investigating the attack and was to submit a report to Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers Association within week. Since the players will not be representing their countries the authorities can only make recommendations to them. Currently, no foreign players have withdrawn from IPL 3.

World Cup Hockey: Pak team OK with security

Pakistan security agencies on Friday gave thumbs up to the security arrangements made for the World Cup hockey tournament in New Delhi beginning on February 28.

A team from Islamabad is in New Delhi to evaluate the security scenario in the national Capital ahead of the World Cup hockey to be held at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium.

"We are satisfied with the security arrangements for the World Cup. We have gone to the hotels also. We will report to the Hockey Federation in Pakistan about our assessment," senior Pakistani security officials Rana Mujahid and Pervez Bandara told reporters here.

Besides India and Pakistan, Hockey majors like Germany, Britain and Australia are among the 12 teams fighting for the championship.

Close to 19,000 security personnel, including 200 gun-totting commandos and 1,000 men of central paramilitary forces will be deployed for ensuring a smooth conduct of Hockey World Cup, being held in India after 18 years.

The World Cup Hockey is being considered as a "dress rehearsal" for Delhi Police ahead of the Commonwealth Games in putting in place a security apparatus and planning traffic for mega event.

Taking no chance, the city police have chalked out an elaborate security and traffic plan for the event, which will be held from February 28 to March 13 at the stadium located near India Gate.

Recently, a bomb blast at a bakery frequently visited by foreigners in Pune has raised suspicions that Indian Hindu terrorist organization, which can go so far to block celebration of St Valentine Day, may carry out further attacks and suicide bombings on foreigners. According to media reports, a US travel alert said “American citizens have been advised to be alert to the continued possibility of terrorist attacks in India as terrorists and their sympathizers are capable of attacking US citizens.” In its travel alert, updated after the blast, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) of the UK government said:“British nationals are reminded to remain vigilant in public places”.

“There is a high general threat from Hindu terrorism throughout India. Recent attacks have targeted public places, including those frequented by westerners and expatriates.” Australia, in its alert said:“We advise you to exercise caution in India at this time because of the high risk of terrorist activity by Hindu militant groups…We continue to receive reports of possible threats against prominent business and tourist locations, in Mumbai and New Delhi”.

There is no need to bring religion into this and to link Islam or Jihad with terrorism. Suicide bombing is prohibited in Islam as well. While Jihad is so maligned that people don't know its true meaning. It basically refers to a struggle and strive to improve the world we live in. One aspect of which could be armed struggle which again has strict rules such as no killing of civilians, women/children old people, or destruction of farms, trees or animals e.t.c.

In Mahabharta, the entire epic is about a war between cousins where millions die. But it is still glorified and important part of the Hindu scriptures because the Pandvas were fighting for a just cause. In other words this was an armed struggle of Pandvas or a armed Jihad in an Islamic context. Ofcourse, any other actions that require you to come out of your comfort zone for the betterment of society is a Jihad and does not necessarily have to be an armed struggle. Let me again clarify that Jihad is not equivalent or mean "Holy war" or "Dharam Yudh", it means to struggle / to strive. Hence an armed struggle might be the equivalent of Sharam Yudh but that is just one subset of Juhd


These terrorists actions of people are those who don't follow their religion properly. Are people in extremists organizations like Abhinav Bharat, Ram Sene, VHP, Bajrang Dal that indulge in violence following Hindu scriptures?---no, but they still do it the name of protecting "Hindus" and "Hinduism". But what they are doing is anything but that.
