Recently there has been report in foreign media on China’s newest fifth-generation fighter jet J-14, a real heavy stealth fighter that may be used as a bomber.
J-14’s maximum takeoff weight is 31 tons and can carry 8 tons of weapons. It is, therefore, the heaviest supersonic stealth fighter jet in the world.
It can carry 2-8 air-to-air missiles, 4-6 air-to-surface missiles, one 30mm gun and some bombs. It is 19.8 meters long and 3.6 meters high with a wingspan of 15.2 meters.
For good stealth function, it carries weapons densely inside, but when it is not necessary to have high stealth function, it can carry weapons under its wings.
Due to the lack of good engines, China’s J-20 stealth fighter cannot gain superiority; therefore, China could not but develop J-14, a heavy fifth-generation fighter jet.
Though it is not so good as F-22 and T-50 in maneuverability, but in term of comprehensive combat effectiveness, J-14’s inferior maneuverability is compensated by its incomparable weapons system.
