In dusty and desert terrain war zones, military helicopters often have accidents due to extremely poor visibility. Engineers at BAE Systems have developed a solution to this problem.
They have created a system called "BLAST", which scans the landing area in a very detailed way. As a result, pilots have a real-time visual representation, in both 3D and colour, of the terrain over which they are flying.
The images produced by "BLAST" use millimetre wave technology, similar to that used by body scanners in airports.Provided by YC/ATC-TCL.com
