Senator Mushahid Hussain lauds Germany’s leadership role in defusing Iran and Syrian crises, calls for Pakistan-German Parliament Friendship Group and Joint Chamber of Commerce

The Senate Defence Committee led by its Chairman, Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, visited Berlin and had good meetings with the Defence and Foreign Relations Committees of the German Parliament. Says a press statement posted on the official website on Sunday.

The delegation also visited the SWP, German Institute for International Politics, the leading think tank of Berlin, as well as the Chief of the German Government Task Force on Afghanistan & Pakistan, Ackerman.

During the delegation’s visit, Senator Mushahid Hussain lauded the role of Germany as the “leader of the Europe, which has demonstrated vision and will to resolve pressing issues including defusing the confrontation with Syria and helping in the rapprochement with Iran”. He also urged for a similar role of Germany in Afghanistan, promoting peace and reconciliation as well as capacity-building.

In an interaction with the German Parliamentarians, Senator Mushahid Hussain called for the establishment of Pakistan-German Parliamentary Friendship Group to institutionalize the relationship between the two parliaments adding that Germany’s role in helping Pakistan’s getting GSP Plus from the European Union was very commendable and highly appreciated by all the political parties in Pakistan.

In order to promote trade relations between Pakistan and Germany, Senator Mushahid Hussain proposed for the establishment of German-Pakistan Joint Chamber of Commerce which would facilitate bilateral contacts between the two countries. He also supported Germany playing a pro-active role in Pakistan’s industrial sector and economy particularly in solar energy, science and technology, education and textiles.

Referring to Pakistan’s pivotal role in the region in the context of Afghanistan, Senator Mushahid Hussain said that the biggest logistical operation after the World War-II will be undertaken in the region when 750,000 pieces of equipment and ammunition worth 35 billion dollars would pass through Pakistan, adding that Pakistan’s cooperation and support were indispensable for ensuring a smooth and peaceful exit for the NATO/US forces from Afghanistan.

He expressed concern that the scenario in Afghanistan could deteriorate if there is no adequate homework by the United States and NATO. The delegation also called for cooperation in defence production between Pakistan and Germany, adding that German machinery played invaluable role in Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF), Wah. The delegation also had a briefing by a unique organisation, namely, Parliamentary Commissioner for Armed Forces of the German Parliament, which acts like an ombudsman for the German armed forces. The delegation also met Chief of the Task Force on Afghanistan and Pakistan at the German Foreign Office.

The Senate Defence Committee delegation comprises Senator Mushahid Hussain, Senator Chaudhry Shujat Hussain, Senator Sabir Baloch, Senator Haji Adeel and Senator Sehar Kamran.

I don't think Germany and Pakistan are on the same frequency on international matters.

Developing and Developed nations cannot be on the 'same frequency'.

I completely agree with you. In the international market, countries deal with each other on the basis of commodities they are selling. Commodities could be the technology, Natural resources and anything which could be of use to other nations.

Correct. For Pakistan, Germany is a very good model for development. We ought to learn from them.

The biggest mistake, Pakistan has done in foreign policy, they put all their eggs in US basket.

Pakistan has to find out other allies in the world.

International affairs doesn't work on 'best friend' sort of thing.

I'm afraid they may end up doing the same thing with China. As much as China has done a lot of good for Pakistan, it's something that Pakistan needs to be cautious of.

especially their Hauptschule system

you know what particular German concept was copied by the 16th century Japanese?

hahahaha! What a childish remark. Sorry to see people repeating what our 2-bit tv drama hosts say it daily 5 times.

you even know that Germany has been putting ALL of his eggs in US basket too especially since the end of WW2.

Even a simple google search can show everyone the USA has mega military base(s) in Germany. They are biggest trading partners.

And here you are saying things that are so common among my younger brother's 5th grade class kids.

What a shame.

Sorry to say.,

please no matam here.

Thank you

Pakistan and China are cooperating where they can

ALREADY!

Pakistan better not deal with Germany directly, sine @FaujHistorian has declared that Germany is almost the 51st state of USA. Its best to deal with USA and USA alone, since they are the masters of known universe.

Seriously, Germans are smart people and they know where their interest lies. Since WW2 West Germany did fully back USA, but it is very doubtful that they would not have an independent policy in this day and age. The world is moving towards a multipolar scenario and Germany knows that. They would not piss off their largest export customer, but they would not replicate USA's foreign policy.

Regardless, my point still stands. Relying heavily on one source is bad for long term goals, especially if you and the source end up differing on critical issues in the future, or if the source wants you to do something that you're unwilling to do. This holds true for any nation, even for China, who've learned this important lesson.

Being friendly with China is in Pakistan's best interest, relying on it for everything is not.

How come the most prolific interlocutors on this forum are mostly the least knowledgeable? When was the last time a Pakistani foreign minister disagreed with the American Defense Secretary (or the Saudi or Chinese aaqa) and defended the policy of his own country like this?

And that was one of the main reasons why the USA had to put all of her eggs in the basket of "new Europe". (lol!)

Are you sure about their Hauptschule system?
The German system is considert as one of the worst in Western-Europe.
The Hauptschule students(poor kids) have allmost no chance of getting a good education
Hauptschule - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The realschule student(middle class) has a better chance of getting a good education.
Hauptschule - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gymnasium students(rich kids)are the elite.
Gymnasium (Germany) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Anybody with any ambition or sense tries to avoid the Hauptschule if possible.
Many Germans find that the educational system in Germany to be lacking in flexibility and fairness. It seems to be no hope for students who mature later on in life or cannot get along with such a rigid system since most of the decisions in the German school system are made for students in the 4 grade(elementary school). There is also a lot of nepotism and favoritism that goes on for the children of the elite or academia. Statistically, the children of these people shouldn't be that much better than 'normal' children, and for me they are over-represented in the Gymnasium.
Abolition of the Hauptschule in Berlin and Hamburg
Starting in 2010/2011 Hauptschulen were formally abolished in the German States Berlin and Hamburg. They were merged with Realschulen and Gesamtschulen to form a new type of comprehensive school called Stadtteilschule in Hamburg and Sekundarschule in Berlin (see: Education in Berlin, Education in Hamburg).
This will give even the poor students the chance to a good education.

no system is perfect.

And it has to be updated as the nation progresses.

In Pakistan when it comes to preparing technicians, we are where Germany was 100 years ago

And thus do not compare of TODAY's germany with TODAY's Pakistan

hope you understand

Thank you

I understand but why not take another system as example,so you dont have to face the same problems as the Germans do now?
