Headley: ISI had no links to 26/11

lets get real -- Now Mr. Headley, alleges that he was dealing with agents of the ISI -- and yet these agents used their real names?? ISI are clowns, but gimme a break guys --

Mr. Headley is doing what is required of him to do, which is to essentially, smear -- the important part of all of this is to create a legal impediment or obstacle for the future -- and from my perspective, I wish them God speed.

some of the ISI 'agent' names -- higher ups -- imaginary "Colonels" and "Majors" --have you seen some of the names they come up with in their media?? It's HILARIOUS. . . .

Like Major Iqbal is funny?

How can you say that the organization was not involved, and then turn around and blame it on some 'rogue' elements?

isi is the most retirement friendly organization.99% of employees are retired .salary is called pension. so every one is a rogue element.
if every one is rouge should nt that be a rouge organization.

CHICAGO, US: A US jury Thursday cleared a Pakistan-born businessman of involvement in the 2008 Mumbai siege, but found him guilty of supporting a banned Pakistani militant group and helping an aborted attack on a Danish newspaper.

Tahawwur Hussain Rana, 50, was found not guilty of conspiracy to provide material support to the 2008 attacks in Mumbai in which 166 people were killed, and which carried a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

But after two days of deliberations, the jury found the Chicago businessman guilty of providing material support to the banned Pakistan militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

He was also found guilty of providing material support to a plot to bomb a Danish newspaper which had published cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed deemed to be offensive by Muslims.

Rana, who is also a Canadian citizen, is likely to face stiff jail terms when it comes to sentencing, but his lawyer said he planned to appeal.

“He is obviously disappointed,” defense lawyer Charles Swift said, adding: “I think he’s in shock.”

During the trial which opened on May 23, the court heard that Rana’s close friend, David Coleman Headley, who he had met at military school in Pakistan, had used his immigrant business as a cover to plot an attack in Denmark.

Muslims had been angered when the Jyllands-Posten newspaper had published the controversial cartoons of Mohammed.

Headley told the federal court in Chicago that since 2009 he had carried out detailed video surveillance of the Danish newspaper and the Danish capital, Copenhagen.

Five video clips played by the prosecution showed general shots of King’s Square in the heart of the Danish capital, as well as the glass frontage of the newspaper’s offices and a back alley.

Headley specifically shot images of a parade of Danish soldiers dressed in ceremonial gear and carrying weapons.

Headley, who has admitted to 12 charges stemming from the Mumbai attacks, has been cooperating with prosecutors since his 2009 arrest at a Chicago airport and was the star witness during the trial.

The plot on Copenhagen was eventually aborted, because of the intense pressure in the aftermath of the Mumbai attacks, and due to a lack of funds, weapons and manpower.

Rana’s lawyers insisted throughout the trial that he is a pacifist who was “duped” into letting his old friend use his company as a cover for his scouting missions.

The trial has been being closely watched as it touched on alleged Pakistani military intelligence collusion with terrorism — a hugely sensitive issue after Osama bin Laden’s killing sparked similar US charges.

Pakistan’s powerful Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency has long been suspected of involvement in the Mumbai attacks and three ISI agents were named as co-conspirators by US prosecutors.

Headley testified that he believed the ISI’s involvement in the Mumbai plot was limited to a handful of rogue agents, but that he believed the ISI worked closely with the LeT.

The Mumbai attacks stalled a fragile four-year peace process between India and Pakistan, two South Asian neighbors and nuclear-armed rivals, which was only resumed in February.

Easy - this isn't over yet -- instead of thumping our chest and calling Indians names, we might want to offer the Indian a better deal - to help the Indian see who the real villain of the piece is and how Pakistan and India have a responsibility to come up with ways to negate those who want these two countries at each others throats.

Pakistan/India/China/Russia ---- friends, this core will allow the very definition of "South Asia" to change -- the entire South Asia will be free, free to engage in business, cultural, military exchanges, that can potentially transform our civilization, move us to make a contribution to humanity, firstly by uplifting the overwhelming majority of humanity.

Mr. Rana caught up in the machinations of an individual referred to as a agent of the government of where he has been offered a "deal", is a victim, both of his own sentiment and the web of deception Mr. Headley and his handlers created -- but Pakistan and India, now have an opportunity to move away from invective and blame games, towards better relations ---

Better relations begin with articulating that they they are possible and necessary - that's right you have to say, use your tongue and mouth, your brain and fingers, to articulate -- make the word, flesh, so to speak.

You keep bad mouthing one another, sooner than later, these expectations of wrong doing will present themselves as reality -- why not change that to the positive??

What have we to lose?

Americans have a habit of first providing with the positives than suddenly they take out negatives from those positives.Since headley the chess piece badly failed to keep the spot light on him I see this as just like the same positives followed by negatives. So word of advice is to ignore this drama completely.

If Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Russia, India and China can work together--That will be great but before that happens, someone will try her best to wage a war..If the above mentioned countries start cooperation, American influence in CARs will suffer a significant blow. But India has many obligations to look for and who can guarantee Pakistani generals will not get 'sold' like a house as they did back in Soviet era...War of deception, people fooled etc

Chicago, May 31: The trial of Pakistani-Canadian Tahawwur Husssain Rana, which led to several revelations of nexus between ISI and LeT in carrying out the Mumbai terror attacks, will resume on June 1 with the testimony of co-conspirator David Coleman Headley. In perhaps the most important terrorism trial ever to beheld, it is still expected that some new information regarding the nexus between al Qaeda, ISI and LeT might emerge.

As the trial, which began last week, more links between ISI and LeT are emerging with Headley narrating his side of the story that he started straying away from the so-called "ISI Jihad" with Major Iqbal and Sajid Mir toward a more "holy jihad" with Pasha or Abdur Rehman Hashim Syed, a retired major from the Pakistani Army, who connected Headley with al Qaeda leader Ilyas Kashmiri.

It is expected that cross-questioning of Headley might finish by Wednesday.

After that FBI agents will be presented by the government at the trial that is being held on the 19th floor of the Dirksen Federal Courthouse.

While Headley has plead guilty, Rana has maintained that he is not guilty in the charge of "support to terrorism".

The trial is expected to last till June 15. If convicted Rana faces a possible life sentence.

Headley claims that Rana, who is his friend from military school in Pakistan and ran an immigration agency, provided a cover for him to survey places in Mumbai when he started to plan the attacks two years before the terrorists struck at the behest of the ISI.

Rana, a Pakistani Canadian, on the other hand, said that he was duped by Headley.

On April 25, in a second superseding indictment, US prosecutors charged four additional men, all Pakistani residents, in the 26/11 terror attacks that left 166, including six Americans, dead.

Rana was indicted by a federal grand jury under 12 counts on February 15 last year for planning out the attacks, providing material support to LeT to carry out the bombings, and guiding Headley in scouting targets in Mumbai in the process.

Headley, who was originally Daood Gilani, changed and anglicised his name in order to carry out the carnage without disclosing his Pakistani identity.

Rana, who had served as a doctor in the Pakistani Army Medical Corps, before he migrated to Canada, is also accused in plotting an attack with Headley on a Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten that published cartoons of Prophet Muhammad.

If convicted, Rana faces a possible life sentence.
