NEW DELHI: Leaving no scope of ambiguity in its stand on the nearly 40,000 Rohingya Muslims living illegally in the country, the government on Wednesday informed the Rajya Sabha that it had issued detailed instructions for their deportation, which was a continuous process.
Stating that Centre is vested with powers to deport foreign nationals illegally staying in the country under Section 3(2)(c) of the Foreigners Act, 1946, minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju in written reply to a Rajya Sabha question stated that the powers to identify, detail and deport such squatters had also been delegated to the state governments and UT administrations.
"The Central government has directed the state governments to constitute task force at district levels to identify and deport the illegally staying foreign nationals. Besides the issue of illegal immigration is taken up with the neighbouring countries during bilateral talks at various levels," he informed the Elders.
According to a senior home ministry official, there are an estimated 40,000 Rohingyas who, after being disowned by Buddhist Myanmar, fled their homes and crossed over to India to take refuge here. They follow three infiltration routes for entering India; by sea, via Bangladesh border (there are around 3 lakh Rohingyas living in Bangladesh) and via Chin area on Myanmar border.
Around 5,500-5,700 of the Rohingya immigrants are based in Jammu alone, though the home ministry fears the number may be 10,000-11,000 if a true count is taken. This, an officer of the central security establishment conceded, is an unusually high percentage of the all-India figure.

Great news. Let's get them out of our country and make sure they never return.

Je baat, this rohingyas are a dangerous lot, need to deport them asap

Sad to see Mamata Banu & Gandhi votenbanks are being disposed.
I fear what would be the reaction of our Desi liberals cause they can go to any extent to oppose this govt.

They will be dispersed and spread across the muslim communities of India and they will get necessary residency papers made illegally or legally with help of local politicians or corrupt officials. FACT

Your getting your panties in a twist because they have a population in jammu they may be at risk of being moved however Kashmiris have a big heart and would welcome the Rohingya refugees into kashmir

Let this materialise.

Only then will I believe it.

I pray that this happens fast.

Rohingyas are neither Indians, nor legal and certainly not the ones who integrate with their host societies.

They can perhaps go and settle down in the pinnacle of human rights, UK.

NEW DELHI: India is in talks with bngdsh and Myanmar about its plan to deport around 40,000 Rohingya Muslims it says are living in the country illegally, a government spokesman said on Friday, with state governments told to form task forces for the purpose.

Tens of thousands of Rohingya have fled persecution in Buddhist-majority Myanmar to neighbouring bngldsh since the early 1990s, with some of them then crossing over a porous border into Hindu-majority India.

New Delhi says only around 14,000 of the Rohingya living in India are registered with the UN refugee agency, making the rest illegal and liable to be sent back. India is not a signatory to UN conventions on refugees and no national law covers it.

"These things are being discussed at diplomatic level with both bngldsh and Myanmar," Interior Ministry spokesman K.S. Dhatwalia said.

"More clarity will emerge at an appropriate time."

Junior Interior Minister Kiren Rijiju told parliament on Wednesday the federal government had directed state governments to "constitute task forces at district levels to identify and deport the illegally staying foreign nationals".

Rijiju was in Myanmar recently to attend an event, although it was not clear if he discussed the Rohingya issue.

Officials in Myanmar could not be contacted immediately for comment.

Amnesty International has said deporting and abandoning the Rohingya would be "unconscionable". (http://reut.rs/2wzseax)

The Indian office of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said it was "trying to find the facts" about New Delhi's plans to deport them.

Rohingya are generally reviled in India, where its 1.3 billion people are fighting for resources and job opportunities.

More than 75,000 Rohingya have fled to bngdsh since Oct. 9 after an insurgent group called Harakah al-Yaqin attacked Myanmar border police posts, prompting a huge security crackdown in which troops have been accused of murder and rape of Rohingya civilians. (http://reut.rs/2uue0ub)

A senior government official in bngldsh, which has complained of being burdened by the heavy flow of refugees, said New Delhi was helping it solve the crisis.

The Rohingya in India live mainly in Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi in the north, Hyderabad in the south, and Rajasthan in the west.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, India's only Muslim-majority state, drew widespread condemnation in April when it threatened to launch an "identify and kill movement" if the government did not deport Rohingya settlers there.
