Dhaka, July 9 (bdnews24.com)—The LGRD minister has said it was Sheikh Hsaina who helped Muhammad Yunus get the Nobel Peace Prize by making him and microcredit familiar worldwide.

"If our prime minister Sheikh Hasina would not introduce Muhammad Yunus to the attendees at the Global Microcredit Summit in Washington, the economist would not become so familiar worldwide and get the Nobel Prize," Syed Ashraful Islam said on Saturday.

Addressing a programme in the city, he said, "She [Hasina] had also introduced microcredit worldwide through the [first] global summit in Washington [in 1997] in the presence US secretary of state Hillary Clinton, then US first lady, Queen Sophia of Spain and many more."

"Our country is a place of history distortion, and no one keep all those in memory," he told the programme organised at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre marking 12 years of Palli Daridro Bimochon Foundation (PDBF).

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the programme.
