Do you people believe that finally by giving PPP complete 5 years in power no more political shaheed tag will be claimed by PPP in the future?

has Democracy finally taken its revenge on PPP?

clearly it seems NO WAY can PPP win for atleast the next 10 years! if this election is won or lost by PTI/PML N the next will be won by the other. PPP future seems finished!

let's support democracy!

I think the main reason for their downfall is, how they have performed over the last 5 years, Basically they have failed to tackle everything from unemployment, illiteracy, education, decreasing load shedding of Gas and electricity and controlling terrorism. With so much corruption on a massive scale it will take a clean government so many years to clear the mess left over by the PPP government.

very true! BUT by not overthrowing them half way we did save Pakistan in the long run from a party that would have played itself a POLITICAL shaheed card! now that they got COMPLETE 5 YEARS they CANNOT CRY about not being given a complete chance!

dictatorship destroyed the country worse. don't you feel? it stopped the natural growth of democracy. the dictators broke the country then followed it up with bringing in gun culture and extremisim in the name of jihad in afghanistan. finally the dictatorship brought the TTP to within our borders.

so IF dictators never came pakistan would have LEARNT democracy in 66 years. alot we learnt in the last 5. give us another 10 years of democracy and we will learn alot more!

It may seem this way but I don't think the PPP is out of the picture completely yet. PPP right before elections begins giving cash to buy votes. It has worked splendidly in the past and still works very well.

I believe too that PPP is done now ... I see their demise not bcz of their performance but bcz of no one able to inspire and lead the party i-e the likes of Bhutto father and daughter ... This also provides me with an interesting question ...will the void left by the demise of PPP (a party of the left wing) be filled by PTI , which until recently has targeted right-of-centre vote bank. Please provide reasons so that it turns out to be a healthy debate.

It's premature to reach such conclusions, let's see what happens in the upcoming elections. PPP or no, democracy should be here to stay. Pakistan Zindabad!

Few days ago I was thinking the same.. PPP needed some "shahadat" which it could not get - even though in the last one and half year they were so desperate for that. In the present form, they have lost their reason to ask for vote. No performance, no emotional slogan and no promises.

exactly they tried and tried to get political shahadat but they couldn't! secondly there old slogan of roti kapra and makkan is also not possible because people saw they lost their roti kapra makaan and naukri too under PPP!!

so with current conditions future for PPP for next 5 or 6 years looks very bad. given that PTI and PML N are both trying to win this election if not this then definetly the next.

thank god no one give PPP the chance of political shaheed!

this election no one even takes PPP serious! infact people are thinking that PPP might come 3rd given its die heart supporters.

Zardari and his cronies has destroyed PPP.

They`ll never win again.

I think we`ll see a new party soon with Bilawal infront. That could perhaps limit the damage if he keeps his father, aunts, the looters away. Unlikely, but not impossible.

Now whether Bilawal wants and is motivated to leave the luxuries of UK,US for Pakistan is something else....

People from Sindh may still vote for PPP. Unfortunately we have very few people who can analyse the performance of the government and the votes of the illiterate blind people would count equally as any sensible person who would try to get rid of them based upon their performance of past 5 years.

Are you suggesting that limiting adult franchise based on literacy and sensibility would work better? Do we want to apply Articles 62/63 to voters as well as the candidates?

All I am saying is, just like the Asian Development bank says about Pakistan

Growth picked up slightly in 2012, but for the fifth consecutive year low growth, falling investment, excessive fiscal deficits, high inflation, and a deteriorating external position weighed on Pakistan's economy. While problematic security and natural disasters are endemic, a difficult political situation stalled effective policy response to macroeconomic and structural problems, especially regarding energy. As official reserves are steadily declining on low capital inflows and heavy debt repayments, downside risks color the outlook.

Economic assessment

Pakistan's economic performance during the first half of fiscal year 2012 (ended June 2012) was driven by a rebound from the devastating floods a year earlier that was partly offset by record power outages from load shedding in the second half. Growth strengthened to 3.7% but again remained well below the 7% pace needed to absorb new workforce entrants.

Pakistan: Economy | Asian Development Bank

Based upon such analysis there is no logical reason to re-elect the same incompetent politicians. But unfortunately very tiny population of Pakistan would care about reading such facts and vote based upon the government's performance.
