Hangzhou of China selected to host 2022 Asian Games
2015-9-16 13:34:51

Hangzhou, capital city of Zhejiang Province in east China, was chosen by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to host the 2022 Asian Games on Wednesday.

The OCA made the decision at its 34th Congress in Ashkhabad, Turkmenistan.

Hangzhou was the only candidate city for the 2022 Asian Games. Its successful bid means the regional games will be staged in China for the third time following Beijing in 1990 and southern Guangzhou in 2010.

Beijing was just selected to hold the 2022 Winter Olympics after hosting the Summer Games in 2008.

South Korea's Incheon held the last Asian Games in 2014, while Indonesia's Jakarta will play host in 2018.

The Asian Games follows the sports program of the Olympic Games.

What is the estimated expenditure?

I think these days hosting mega sporting events is getting out of hands, and too costly and unsustainable.

I hope Hangzhou already has the Infrastructure in Place, and wouldn't need to build one. Also, whatever Infrastructure is built should be economically feasible and prudent to build, that is there must be return on Investments.

My favorite city, not "one of".

Don't worry, Hangzhou has 8.8 million population, building some new infrasturcture is necessary. It's almost the first-level city in China, by the way, Alibaba headquarter locates in Hangzhou.

Some infrastructure is fine, but often lavish infrastructure is built that finds no use.

Like the water Cube built during Olympics. It found no use for a long time, and that was Bejing.

Tell me, what use will you find of a dedicated archery venue of highest quality? The national team would already be training in Beijing, it has to be used by local people.

Similarly there was a rowing venue built for Olympics, which literally sits idle today.

Hosting Beijing 2008 and Shanghai 2010 totally changed local transport especially metro system.
If Wuhan had the chance, we wouldn't be "begging" for approval of more routes in our metro system although we have money.

@Bussard Ramjet Before making some absurd assumptions, pls search how busy Water Cube and Bird Nest are.(if u don't know Chinese and how to use Baidu searching, learn it)

somebody is having the redeye syndrome again because India is not a suitable place to host Asian Games unlike East Asian and some South East Asian countries. :coffee:
Exactly.
China should host more championships and big games, not just Beijing/Shanghai/Guangzhou.
More opportunities should be given to 2nd or 3rd tier cities.

When a country is not starved, sports are crucial for health and life expectancy.
China is still relatively deficient in sports facilities, especially in community-level.
This is a huge market.
I have just ordered weekend tennis hours using O2O APP.
(waiting for weeks, tennis stadium in my community too busy at weekend)

More sports, longer life!

WUHANOPEN
Yes, Wuhan people are crazy about tennis!
I LOVE LI NA!

The Wuhan Open (currently sponsored by Dongfeng Motor) is a tennis tournament held in Wuhan, Hubei, China, organized for female professional tennis players. It is part of the Premier 5 tournaments on the WTA Tour and made its debut in the 2014 season.

" Hangzhou was the only candidate city for the 2022 Asian Games."
where are the other "super-powers" of Asia - "the rising sun" or "the incredible" or " the TPP" which have been cheering for the fall of China 24/7 and where are Gordon C, MX Pei.and their doubles

Hangzhou wont be the only place to host all the competitive venues. The organisers will spread the locations of events to other convenient places in Hangzhou vicinity

Congrats, regardless!
